What Brought Us to Buy an Excalibur?

Post by Meat Hunter »

The reasons that I chose and Excalibur (Vixen & Phoenix) were:
(1) Light weight (main reason)
(2) Dependability
(3) Warranty
(4) Accuracy
(5) Simplicity

hello neighbor :D I got an excal because every compound i had except a 10pt had issues at one time or another..need a string change?? find a bowshop..then was not satisfied with the techs there, always worried about if the bow was done right..so i built a bow press to change my strings and there was so much that could go wrong...soooo, i got an Excalibur..my main reason is simplicity, second reliability, third I knew they would be backed by great service warranty if problems ever occured..I HAVE NOT BEEN DISSAPOINTED!! :D

A friend of mine was the first around here to get a disability permit and buy a crossbow. He tried several different brands and finally settled on Excalibur. When I got my permit, he recommended Excalibur and I bought my first one in '97. Since I've never owned another brand, I missed finding out how bad all the others are. Gary

To be honest I've only ever owned Excal but my first one was just by chance. I hadn't done any research or anything but the place I bought my Exocet from in Chatham only sold Excals. I didn't know it at the time but luck was on my side. Now that I know what I know I would never own anything else.

On a sad note that same dealer is still in business but has discontinued the Excal line in favour of the cheaper (think crappy here) Chinese copy. :(

Same as bucknbill and others. Had issues with compount verticle bows in past. Last one was never right for more than one or two practice cessions. No need to mention names. Have come to hate nearly all bow and gun shops. Seams all they know how to do is take your money. Decided to not take my freinds' advice as they have led me astray on multiple occations. Did tons of research. Narrowed it to 10-p or Excal. Must say the forum, as well as reviews on other sites, played a role in decision making. One of the few purchases in which I have been 100% happy. :)

I used to shoot vertical bows and loved to bowhunt. :D All of the high poundages and quantity of shooting I did finally took a toll on me. :( I finally had to quit shooting because of elbow and shoulder problems in my left arm and a torn rotator cuff in my right shoulder. Finally got the rotator cuff fixed, but since archery had screwed it up to begin with I wasn't about to start shooting again and have it mess up again. Went several years only gun hunting.

I finally decided to get a crossbow and start using it so I could get back out in the woods again. I had heard a little about the different kinds, but Excalibur kept coming up as the best no matter who I talked to. After I really got to looking into them, I found out that they WERE the best.

What I mainly liked about them was just the simplicty of design. There wasn't much that could screw up on them. But I've got to admit too, Bill Troughbridge himself had a lot to do with my decision as well. Mr. Troughbridge was someone that everyone listened to when he spoke, was an icon in the industry, and he hunted and torture tested his products, always striving to make them better for the hunter.

Once I found out more information on the Excalibur and the company itself, it was kind of a no-brainer. :D

When I moved to Tennessee and found out Crossbows were legal during archery season, the search was on. I have never had any interest in compound bows, just too much stuff to go wrong and needs adjustments. I have helped on some Wheelin' Sportsman hunts and one of the hunters used an Excalibur and he loved it. Later I learned my barber and his wife both had Excaliburs and sang their praises, especially when he had a limb issue due to dry fire. So I started reserching crossbows and could find nary a complaint about Excalibur bows or the company. Then to decide on the right one, I e-mailed Excalibur with my hunting preferences (deer) and my height, etc. I got a reply within the day and expected the highest priced Excalibur to be recommended. WRONG!!! The right bow for my size is what was recommended. I have been nothing but pleased and amazed at the accuracy. It is "The 4 Wheel Drive of Crossbows".

I started hunting with a Barnett in the early '80s. Killed a couple deer but not satisfied with it. I ordered a Bear/Jennings(with training wheels) and killed several deer with it. When it started giving me problems I upgraded to a Exomag. Found out it was more bow than I needed. Gave it to my son and bought a Exocet. Also killed lots of of deer with it. I have finally had to quit deer hunting. My body will not allow it so I re-live the hunts of the past knowing I may never be able to hunt again. This is the first year I have not deer hunted with either a gun or crossbow since 1965. I have made lots of friends here and love to read and see the results of the fine members of this forum hunts.

I started out with a compound. It was an older
PSE. I still have it. I practiced like crazy and got really good with it. Distances, shooting downhill, I loved hitting targets with it. I would sit in my tree stand and nail the same dime sized spot on my 3d target. I wasn't cocky but I felt I was going to be able to harvest a deer cleanly with as little suffering as possible. The first year out I didn't even see a deer from my stand. I got discouraged of course. I kicked them up the odd time but never had one infront of the stand. My second year I had 3 does come to me about 25 yards away I took shot and hit her in the shoulder.... That tore me up, so
Much so I gave up bow hunting it pissed me off that much that I wounded an animal. some time went by and I started missing being in the woods, and I thought to myself that if. Was going to be out there taking another creatures life, I'm going to do it in the most humane way possible. I wanted a scope for accuracy. It never occured to me to buy different brand than Excalibur, everyone I knew who had One couldn't say enPugh good things about them. One guy I knew told me of a scope problem he had and went to the factory and was treated like gold. Got a new scope and a tour of the facilities!! That's what sold me on Excalibur.

I always wanted a crossbow but it was illegal to hunt with it in Va and was told i couldnt even own one...not that i ever thought i would hunt with it i just wanted one. When i became Disabled i got a permit signed by my doctor to hunt with a crossbow but didnt own one and the cost was to much at the time so i saved and researched all of the ones i thought i could afford and found that for a about the same or just a little more money i could get what i was looking for and it was the same reasons meat hunter listed (1) Light weight (main reason)
(2) Dependability
(3) Warranty
(4) Accuracy
(5) Simplicity
I wanted the recurve Period. Bought the Exomax put it together and within a week crossbow season was in and i had killed my first doe with it.The crossbow was so fast the deer forgot to bleed ...hahaha no i hit her in the heart and she bleed out inside and dropped within 40 yards. Been HOOKED and hooked hard from then on.

I've bow hunted since I was 12 started with a bear recurve then a white tail hunter then a browning nomad next came a pro line point blank then a Hoyt striker 2 then I switched to Mathews and hunted with a switchback and a drenalin I put my time in now 41 years old I sold the dren to buy a Parker tornado I thought it was the best until I dropped it out of a tree stand and it was damaged beyond my belief. Sent it back for repair 200.00 damage when it was returned with new limbs a new riser and main rail I sold it for a vortex and couldn't be happier. Simplicity no more pro shops that have high school kids working on bows. No more timing issues with cams no more wondering if the bow was going to explode in my lap while on stand. If something happened to my vortex I would purchase another one.

i remember my brother coming home with a big ugly wide wolverine and we all had a good laugh until the next day when he showed us how it would shoot an arrow in the same hole every shot at 25 yards and the rest of us just prayed arrows would not take off on a 45 degree angle after 15.ive bought 6 since then and never had an issue with one.i did have an issue with an old drop zone fogging up and peter fixed the problem with one phone call. i have at least 15 bows in the house today and would pick the excal if i could only keep one
