My oldest came through

Post by MarkMarine »

I know this is not a crossbow buck, but I just had to share. I was on the way to the hospital when my oldest son, Dusty, called and asked if I got the picture yet.

I said, "What picture?"

He then informed me through his broken connection that he'd shot a deer that morning from an extreme angle and it was a 9 pointer. He was excited and I got excited for him.

So many things have gone wrong lately, but his call (and subsequent pic) brightened my day and took my mind off of other matters.

My son hunts like I do: he goes out into the woods and stays until he feels he cannot stay any longer - and then he stays some more. Hunting is an obsession with he and I (my youngest could care less about it lol).

In the picture, a camper is seen. He hunts public land in the middle of the Current River region of the Ozarks by Van Buren (Vixenmaster and Papabear know where I'm talking about). Normally, their party would set up an old GP Tent...campers in the pic was a surprise. Anyway, the ridges are killers there and the yahoos are abundant. It is like an army of local yocals invades the hills there with a lot of weapons and a ton of beer. But my son and his group have been hunting the same spot for years. I am amazed a buck like this survived so long into the season given the number of hunters.

I'm proud of the boy :)

I will sure tell him. He said it was over 20 inches wide on the inside. I am just happy his hour after hour of dedication was rewarded :)

That's a nice one! Tell him congrats!!! Public land usually has some good ones, but they didn't get big by being stupid. And on public land, they're particularly sharp.
