Need Some Advice on a Corn Feeder

Post by DanO »

I've always just tossed some corn on the ground to keep the deer in my area. I don't have access to the corn field nearby. Driving out every other day is expensive and disruptive to the bush I'm sure. Can anyone recommend a little 5 gallon automatic feeder?

Dan O,

I cant reccomend a commercial feeder - I guess maybe because I'm too cheap

I took the conventional PVC gravity fed plan and added a 5 gallon pail to the top. I am getting about a week to the tank with it.

It took a little McGuivering to get it right but I think I have a good working prototype now. Let me know if you are interested and I can send you what worked for me.

I use a Cabela dusk and dawn feeder motor $39.95 and get my own 5 gal. bucket, a 6 volt energizer batt. will last all season. You have to use clean shelled corn or it will clog I use Walmart corn and sift it thru a fan shroud
picking out the trash but its better than having it clog.
Hope this helps

Been thinking about one of these -
http://www.pennco.com/index.htm

Every one I've tried that uses a motor to throw the corn lasts only a short time. They are either clogged up or the motor burns up all too frequently.

I've got an old Cabela's feeder I could easily mount the Pennco on.

I had the same luck. Tried several different brands of feeders. Went back to putting it on the ground about 5 years ago. A friend of mine made some feeders out of timers and electric motors and I'm going to try them.

Triple "C" feeders,Burleson TX. Unit is made with funnel attached so 4 lag screws are all it takes to mount to bottom barrel.6v or 12v -have one thats over 20 yrs old! They took all the frustrating part out of haveing feeders. They work first time, every time like the pen.(Bic) They are so dependable that almost everyone on our lease has changed over to them.I cant give any product any better review, and no, I dont work for them. They are a little pricey at approx. 160.00 to 175.00 but you wont have to buy another one or go out and fix the first one.

This is what I use.
Just recently sent photos to a friend.
Poor sketch but he got the idea.
Drive it down until the elbow lays on the ground.
As the deer paw at the corn more comes out.
May be the last time they paw, and for some it has been :D
