field dressing deer tool tips

Over the years , we try to find easier methods and equipment to field dress deer more efficiently . First : Butt Out ; a tool to pull the intestines out , tie them off , so they don't make a crappy mess. Second : Swingblade knife , use the wide blade to start up the crotch. Rotate the blade and just under the skin , slide the blade up the gut and finish at top of the rib cage. Third : using a Coghlan folding saw , I cut through the crotch . This exposes the intestine with the Butt Out still attatched. Remove the intestines . Take your saw and cut through the center of the rib cage till it's in 2 sections. After I know it 100% dead , I slit the throat under the chin. Then loosen up the windpipe from the neck meat. From the inside of the rib cage , I pull the windpipe from the neck. As you pull toward the back legs , cut any muscle that supports the organs. Pull past the anus carefully , not to damage the bladder. A stick is inserted in the rib cage to cool the meat while hanging. These 3 tools help make a clean and fast field dressing. Ray

that should probably be Step 1. It would make your steps 1-3 alot easier..HAHA

I wouldn't be without the shoulder length field dressing gloves anymore.
I buy them by the 6 pack and always have them in my fanny pack.

I forgot to mention that I wear surgeon gloves. After 25 years and over 50 deer field dressed , this new method works for me . Ray
