A weak moment

Post by theoldarcher »

With Georgia season quickly coming to a close and having four doe and one buck tag left, I took an opportunity that presented it’s self this past week. With darkness closing in and just a few minuets of light left this yearling and another came running in to an acorn flat that I was in. She stopped for just a second to see where the other yearling was, broadside and at 4 yards. Before I thought about what I was doing the fiber optic pin was on her shoulder and my finger pulled the trigger. She dropped right where she was standing. The other yearling ran off followed closely by a pair of labs that had chased them my way. She may not be big but as Jeff Foxworthy says, “That’s going to be some fine eating”. :D

I've been thinking of doing the same come winter bow season in Jan. There's not alot there but they just melt in your mouth,If your hunting for meat it doesn't get any better than that. Congratulations

Congratulations!!!

Nothing wrong with harvesting a young one if you can use the meat. Not as much meat, but it can't be beat for taste!

I have taken 7 does this year and one buck. The freezer is almost empty. My crew of 5 put it away quick.

We've put 4 (1 yearling, 1 doe, 1 button buck my son shot in the youth gun season, and 1 buck) in the freezer so far this season. That will probably hold us for the winter, but I may try for one more in the muzzleloader season (Jan 7-10). The freezer is full, but I like it canned and converted to jerky & summer sausage, too. :D
