wood stove warmed me up today

Decided to get the old wood stove in my shop ready for use this winter this morning. I usually visually inspected it & the stove pipe, then burn some cardboard and paper (fast & hot) to clean off the rust that invariably forms over the summer. (the shop has a dirt floor as it was my father's blacksmith shop)
It's a small cast iron "logwood" style stove and a quick hot burn will clean it up quickly and easily. It doesn't heat the entire shop, but it will knock down the chill next to the workbench and doesn't use too much wood.
I had left the door open over the summer and thrown some waste paper inside, so I just put a few drops of oil on the door hinges and lit the paper. Went to close the door and both hinge pins snapped off.
Set the door over the opening, let it burn down, then went back after it cooled and spent an hour or so getting the old pins out (had to drill one out on both the door and the stove) and fit new pins so the door will work properly.

At least it warmed me up with all the work, and I didn't even have to use up any firewood.

I'm ready for those cold winter evenings when I need to escape the house for a few hours now.

Sounds good iv had my outside wood furnace fired up for a couple of mouths now they say a cold Ohio winter ahead spent the weekend cutting wood now it's time to get out and get the equinox fired up!

Better to have it mess up now while you were fooling with it, than when yer back was turned with load of wood in it. We have been using out lil wood stove since Oct. & used a cord of wood already

I ended up taking out my wood stove and put in a gas "wall mount" unit. Less work and takes up less floor space. Great to have heat in your man cave!

Wasn't busy today so I went ahead and replaced the old stovepipe, too.
Ready to retreat to the man-cave when the snow flies!

I just got off the phone with friend living in North Dakota near the Canadian border. Hes got his stove working overtime. He said that since early this morning the snow has been nearly waist high and is still falling. The temperature is dropping way below zero and the north wind is increasing to near gale force. His wife has done nothing but look through the spam window and just stare. He says that if it gets much worse, he may have to let her in.
