Ontario deer season's over - now what!

Post by maple »

Yesterday was the last day of the Ontario deer hunting season. That means things will change drastically in my personal routine.

-No more watching the wind-guru website;
-no more eagerly anticipating the week's trail cam pictures;
-no more quiver & arrows dislayed in the back window of the car;
-no more camo coat hangin' in the toolshed;
-no more arranging appointments to fall on non-hunting days.
-no more looking out the window thinking 'I should be out there now'.
-no more wishing for fresh "tracking snow".
-no more watching the sunrise from a tree stand.

I'm going to miss it.

However! Bring on the ice! Here I come Bay of Quinte!

Still plenty to hunt if you don't mind small game.
Then there are coyotes that you could chase and before you know it there will be turkey on the menu.
The way the weather is it may be some time before we get safe ice.

Still 36 days left here in Ohio (Feb 5).
Doubt I'll buy another tag, though.
We already have 4 in the freezer. :roll:

On to steelheading since the rivers are still open. I'd like to go ice fishing but not for a while yet, if ever!

I was just gona say " Bring on the ice fishing to you " but then I read all your post and ya went and said it for me. The old Bay had some ice on her the other day , but still need a few more cold ones yet. Maybe by next week if we are lucky. We will have to hook up when you are down this way.

Me, I'm super excited because my (2nd) hunting season is about to begin!!! Its wabbit season :D ! Two months of bunnies in front of merry little hounds with floppy ears and white-tipped tails!

My beagle and my double-barrel 20 ga. are ready, now if we could only get some frost & snow in my neck of the woods :roll: .

Two weekends left here. Youth season and spike buck-doe bonus season runs concurrently. Colton( my 9 yr. old) got a turkey this a.m. so maybe a deer next weekend or the one after. I LOVE deer season but having been in the woods every weekend since the middle or end of Aug. I have lots of hunny-dos stacked up.Guess it will be nice to get things back to normal for a while till spring turkey season. Its right around the corner! Cant wait.

I've got until the end of February for me and the little dog to chase the "buck-toothed horde of the forest". :wink:
