Monday Goose Hunt

Post by LondonDave »

With deer season over and the goose season still running until Jan 7th in my area we headed out Monday afternoon to see if we could knock a few down. The geese have been coming into this field just north of where I live consistantly so I just needed to get permission. Stopped in to introduce myself to the neighbour on Sunday night on my way to work and secured permission no problem. We were set up just after 2 and things were pretty slow. First flock didn't come in until just about 4:30 and we knocked down 4 of them. The problem is they hardly gave us a chance to get out and collect the dead and wounded (we had a couple of cripples) before the next flock and the next flock and the next flock rolled in. Things just kind of fell apart from there and we never got a chance at anymore. We're going to try them again on Saturday and set up in a slightly different spot that should be a little more productive.

Nice! This year we turned our geese into 'ground goose', mixing in 1lb of bacon for every 5 breasted geese. Makes AWESOME burgers, meatloaf & chili!!! Finally found a use for my wife's spam Aid mixer, ha ha!

Cheers

Nice birds !

The all come at once seems to be the norm this time of season everywhere !

Had the same problem too; then couldn't load the gun fast enough or retrieve them before being attacked again !

Almost had to shoot them in self defense !!! LOL

I like your idea of putting the geese in a shopping cart! Very creative!

Just like going to the grocery store..lol I put them in there and cover them over so my dogs don't get them. That cart was left abandoned by my work for months so i finally took it home. Comes in handy.

Most of the ducks and geese have left the area about 2 weeks ago. The Grand river , where we hunt ; is still open . Ray

Great job on the geese it sure looks like fun. We have plenty inside the town that I work at but we can't hunt them inside the city limits because of the town ordinance. They won't leave and have become a nusiance. The town has tried scaring them with dogs and also destroying their eggs when they nest but no luck so far. They need to let some of us use our crossbows and take a few of them out while they are running around on the ground. The only problem is where they hang out is a public park.

Congrats again and good luck on your next hunt.

Great pics, thanks for sharing with us. :)

I didn't get any fowl hunting in this year. :(
