Bucks still fighting in January

Post by PABOWDUDE60 »

Last monday I took 50 lbs of corn up to the cameras. I just got back about an hour ago. I had 223 pics of deer and turkeys. Here are some of the bucks still fighting this morning.

I posted something similar this morning that I found on another site. One of our state biologists found a couple of bucks locked up last Wednesday.

Some real good pics there. Interesting that they're still fiesty in January. Maybe they're deciding who gets to eat first? :)

Man those are some great looking deer! The snow is cool too. We're still green all over around here. :)

Where I live the buck to doe ratio is way out of whack. The result is the does don't all get bred on the first go around at the beginning of Nov. They go back in heat a month later, along with the yearling does. Some of those don't get bred either until still later and you end up with mating going on all winter and young ones that are born in July or August instead of April or May. That's usually no problem for a fawn born this far south but one born that late up north might not be big enough to make it through winter. Gary

I'm using Cudde back capture white flash cameras. I have 4 of them. Some of these bucks I have 5 or 6 pics of.
I'm going back up today to dump another bag of corn around the 2 cams I have out. I'm hoping these bucks will start dropping their antlers soon and close to the cameras.
When the turkeys come in ,they really trash the areas. There is a group of 11 gobblers, a couple of them have double beards. And then another group of about 20 jakes and hens. Hopefully come spring gobbler season we can get a couple of them long beards.
