.357 Airgun

Post by sipsey »

My daughter and son in law got me this beast of an airgun for a Christmas gift. They had ordered it around Thanksgiving but it just came in a couple of weeks ago. Nosler makes bullets designed for it from 95 to 170gr. Just got a scope mounted on it the other day and did some shooting with it. It uses 3,000 psi to quietly propel the bullets up to 900 fps. This is gonna be fun once i get it dialed in. ( will try to post pict. later- haven't figured out how to post from iPad yet)

That sounds useful!
I'd say it would be good on a variety of game.
What brand is it?

It's a Benjamin Rogue. Crosman bought out Benjamin back in the 90's. The only drawback of this caliber is that in mine and most other states a .40 cal. is required for deer. I wrote an article on the history of big bore airguns and let my daughter read it, that's where she got the idea for the gift. In the late 1600's through the late 1800's the well off folks in Europe were killing stag and bore with airguns.

Look up Dennis Quackenbush. He makes custom big bores at a reasonable price. There is a photo of a fellow that used one of his guns to double lung a 2,000 lb. bison with a five hundred plus gr. bullet from 53 yds. There is a whole sub culture out there that have kept under the radar for some time.

I put a set of high rings and different scope on it earlier today. It has a six shot clip and the low rings put the scope to low for the clip. Got it about zeroed, then ran out of air. Have six more days of deer season left. It will probably be after that before I can see what it will do. It is very quiet, it's has a shrouded barrel which makes it sound about like a regular pellet gun.
