Me and the Brown Recluse..(shake out your clothes)

Post by bucknbill »

the 26 of january on a thursday i went out to get my hunting clothes that i usually hang on my back fence..i never shake them out and it has been unseasonably warm here lately so i should have known better..i got ready for the evenin hunt and took off behind the house..a couple hours later my right leg begin to burn like i had a bad burn..it was the backside behind the knee..i came to the house shortly after and the wife looked at it..she said small water blisters were forming and i had 2 whelped up places where something had bitten me..before bedtime the blisters were very big and they burst..by mormin more were on the outsde calf of my leg with leg swelling and strong burning..blisters burst again..by friday evenin the typical sore of brown recluse was showing on my calf, large red area with bulls eye type sore in the middle..my leg would not hold a bandage because of the fluid seepage..by monday i was very ready for a doctor visit at the VA..it was tender and clothes brushing it was painful..doctor said i was bitten and gave antibiotics and a pain/fever reducer..he made me an appointment to see the surgeon..the meds have worked great and the leg feels much better, the blisters are dryed up but the bullseye sore on my calf is still raw and burning..i see the surgeon this wednesday feb8..they will confirm that it was brown recluse by blood test i,m told..doc told me the surgeon will probably have to go in and scrape and clean the flesh on the calf of my leg...anyway i wanted to write and remind everyone to shake out your clothes if you leave them outside

Wow, I don't believe we have them up in wi. Nasty spider! Hope you recover soon. We have lymes disease here which is a big problem. Can ruin you for life if you do not catch it soon enough and get treatment. Take care.

Shake them out is good advice . . .don't leave them outside is pretty good advice too. That's a mean spider!

There was a woman on the news not too long ago that lost a breast to one of those spiders. It definitely requires treatment early or things start falling off.

I hope your treatment goes well!

Dam you have some nasty spiders over your way. I had to google up "brown recluse" to know what you were talking about, and WOW was there some serious nasty looking pictures of bites, I could not believe it. One of the articles I read on this spider says that the bite from this spider is more poisonous that that of the rattlesnake, and its venom basically breaks down and kills tissue.

I wish you a speedy recovery from this, sounds like you have some rough times ahead till you fully recover.

Dang, I'm able to inflict enough damage myself without needing help of an arachnid. Take care and thanks for the insight.

Anymore, I don't trust any spider and do all I can to be rid of them in the house.
If I leave my ground blind out over night, I make sure to close it up as tight as possible.

Last year I got bit by a spider in my home. Looked the same as thousands of others I have caught by hand and dispatched. The bite was sharp and painful. Burned for three days and then healed.

Now I just suck them up with the vacuum cleaner.

Not much creeps me out, but spiders are on the top of the list! UGH!!!!! I often tell Tim that I married him to be my Spider Slayer.

Hope you heal well and quickly!
