16 Foot Python Swallows Deer

Post by Sopchoppy »

In the February issue of Woods N' Water, a Florida based publication, there is an amazing article with pictures. A crew spraying exotic vegetation in the Everglades discoved the Burmese Python. The snake weighed 215 lbs. and was 44" around before the deer was removed. The doe weighed 76 pounds and was swallowed whole head first. It appears digestion had just started as the deer looks freshly killed. My guess is the snake was unable to move when the crew approached the snake who had just finished his oversized meal. I feel that way sometimes too.

Nothing to surprising there and has been documented a number of times.
Florida has full time pest control trying to control this invasive.

They expend a lot of energy trying to swallow large prey.
After a large meal they use almost all of their energy trying to digest their meal. In doing so their body temp actually drops and they don't move well until it returns to normal.

If it could swallow a doe that size I am sure there would be plenty of material to make me a couple pairs of boots and a belt !! Did I say I hate snakes
