forum dictionary

Post by spike »

There are folks from all over north america (and offshore as well) that come to this forum. Many of you will use or know expressions that are peculiar to your area and chances are nobody else will use them. For example, I knew an older gentleman in the Gatineau hills (north of Ottawa, Ontario, on the Quebec side) that used the term "summysot" for the word "somersault".

If this interests you, please submit words or expressions which you use or have heard used , the translation if required, and where geographically this word or expression is used. I'm not quite sure how to compile them but will work on it.

Vixenmaster - what on earth is "gotstid" ?

I'm guessin' it means it actually happened instead of just bein' "purt-ni".

BTW - "purt-ni" is the short form of pretty-near meaning almost.

This sort of topic reminds me of the Simpsons when Mr Burns lossess al his money and tries to grocery shop for himself !

Stuck on ketsup or catsup ; now for the cereal ilse; frosty O's where's the burn's o's ?

Language barriers do exist - us canucks say going out in the bush - them yanks say the woods !

Go figuire . oneshot..........
Leave the concrete jungle behind and just go hunting !
