Terrible Tornado Damages local area

Post by HIGHBOW »

I guess many of you have seen on National Tv the tragic damages that we got in Eastern Kentucky last Friday night. I was lucky that my home wasn't hit but several in the area were not so lucky. The Weather Channel issued warnings early enough to give people a chance to take cover but many didn't believe it could hit here. It did and the electric company that I work worked around the clock to restore service to more than 4000 homes that lost power during this storm. WE had winds over 160mph and I saw sites that I never thought area mountains would have to deal with.
We have been strong for many years dealing with floods and ice storms but this type of wind does damages you just won't believe. It took a 90 mile strip through the trees over a mile wide in places,my point for even posting this. Value life and what you have today to the highest fore tomorrow it can all be gone. May you never have to deal with such a storm as what I saw last Friday night.

Yeah, I heard you guys got hit Nathan. Glad to hear ya'll are OK.

There were 4 confirmed tornados that went through around here last Friday. An EF2 & EF4 hit Southern Indiana and pretty much tore the crap out of it. They've been saying the damage was comparable to the damage last year in Alabama. There was an EF0 & EF2 went through KY over to the west of me. Pretty much tore the crap out of that area too. They said there was one that came through Spencer County (where I live), but they haven't been able to confirm it.

There was plenty of warning, with the local weather forecasts saying that it was going to happen 2-3 days in advance. They let the schools out 2 hours early, so i took a half day off and picked the boy up. We came home, brought the dogs in, buckled down, and hung on. Wind, rain, hail, you name it, we got it.

The last few years the weather seems to have changed so dramatically we are seeing tornados and strong storms in places that have never experienced them before. Global warning, global cooling, the end of the aztec calendar, plantetary alignment no matter how you look at it things are a changing. Everyone best be prepared and stock up on plenty of deer jerky and sippin' whiskey.

I live in the middle of Tonado alley in Georgia. When the sirens go off we get in the safest place in the house and pray that it skips over us this time. I have been lucky so far and have only lost several trees over the years while homes and lives have been lost around me.

My prayers go out the those who got hit.

Got out and looked at some of the damage close to where I live yesterday. Luckily there were no deaths here and only a few injuries. The article in the local paper was quoting a local rescue worker who was trying to get a woman (age 99) out of a wrecked trailer where she was pinned under a table. He said things seemed wrong, then it hit him - what should be the ceiling was carpeted! The trailer was flipped onto it's top!

I am a tough gal who seldom cries but everytime I see storms destroy areas I tear up. Even if my family and I survived I couldnt imagine to have my home, car, food, job etc.... all gone just like that! I feel so sorry for all of those people.
To be a vegetarian is to listen to the live carrot gradually screaming as it drowns in a pot of boiling water …. Which is more ethical to you ??

Today, I plan to drive through the area again and check on a few friends to see how things are coming along. A 16 year old boy was kill along with one 20 year old man in the same house as it was ripped into a creek, those were the 2 local deaths from this storm. I saw several trailers and double wide homes smashed to splitters and two huge transmission line steel towers bent over to the ground like to couldn't believe. We have replaced around 35 poles so far just to get power back on while in Morgan County they have replaced over 300 and I heard that last night Magoffin Co got power back to the last area without. You know on the bright side of it all our boys basketball team for Johnson Central High School is headed to the State tournament and the Magoffin Co girls basketball team won their first round in the State Tournament. It will take sometime but we will be building back in these areas and in a couple years I hope back to something close to what it use to be or better. Big Cal, I thought about you man, our son said it came close but no damage there either. It's starting out to be a bright sunny today and I'm going to enjoy it and everyday that I can because it can end before dark falls.
