OT - new deer hauler

Post by wabi »

I decided since Ford quit making the Ranger pickup I'd better do something quickly. My old Ranger (2001) was starting to show the wear & tear.
With the gasoline prices these days I thought a regular cab 4cyl might be the best option so I got online and started searching yesterday morning. Plenty of super cab 4.0 liter (v-6) out there but only 1 regular cab 4 cyl within 100 miles.
Gave the dealer a call & hopped in my old ranger and headed out.
Good thing I did - as I was headed there (1 hr drive) someone else wanted to buy it, but my salesman told them I was on the way to pick it up.

Anyway, came home with it. Now back to making payments.
(I like to finance them for the length of the warranty period.)
Lucky to get a great trade-in price out of the old ranger, $4,000. in "incentives", and my father-in-law's discount (retired Ford employee) to soften the blow of the payments. :)

The old ranger was only getting 16 mpg. Checked the new one with only 94 miles on it this morning and got 26.8 mpg. I'm sure that's going to go down a little, most of those miles were 4 lane highway.

Now the wait for fall so I can christen it with deer blood dripping out of the bed all over the bumper.

FORD = Found On Road Dead.... But at least it looks good. :D

I drive a 2007 Honda Accord and a 2006 Chevy Silverado 4X4 extended cab. Want to guess which one I drive every day and hunt out of 95% of the time?

26 MPG sounds great to me. Hope you enjoy it.

Actually it will not be sold in North America! :(
From Ford's execs:
if this new Ranger were offered, it could confuse buyers and hurt F-150 sales.

Nice little truck for sure, congrats.

It will be interesting to see if Ford brings out a new model to replace it since they also dropped the Sporttrac.

Won't be long to the christening that's for sure. Here the turkeys are starting to get active and still a long way to go till the start of the season.

It may be something like what GM/Chevy did with the S-10. They stopped making it and replaced it with the Canyon/Colorado.

A Ford Wabi??? Surely you could have found something a little better, like a used Yugo or something.

A few years ago I would not have looked at a Ford.
Recently with dealer shake ups and the ones left leaves me with one good Ford dealer and one good Chrysler dealer.
That leaves just the Ford at the top of my list and I've tried a number of brands.
The Ford ecoboost engine impressed me during the test drive.
I also don't want to travel for service or warranty.

Great looking truck Wabi!! I just got a subaru impreza wagon "28.5 mpg." I'm sure with a little effort I'll be able to stuff a deer in there :D
