Last day to bag a turkey!

Post by EJ45 »

I have bee MIA for a while but managed to get one gobbler this season(my first ever to hunt) It was a "textbook" set up .... I heard him gobble, set up my decoys and had him attacking my jake decoy at 15yds 20 min later. I was hooked!

Fast forward to now, as the season progressed the birds have gotten quiet. I have one found that hangs out on an adjacent property. I set up today and called without a response, he had an open pasture or a dirt road to come to me on, as I packed up there he was strutting across the fence 100yds away. ANY tips from you guys that might help to light a fire under him?

Here is the gobbler I bagged early in the season ....

Here is the gobbler Im TRYING to bag from earlier in the year

Thanks for any help!

Congrats on the bird! Looks like a dandy!

This late in the season, they aren't too worried about breeding any more down where you're at. Best thing you can do is learn is travel pattern and try to ambush him like you would a deer.

Update from the field, I had him strutting within 50 yds, he never made a peep or seemed that intersted in my calling. Im set up on the road I usually see him strutting/feeding on. I will give him a little longer then call it a day

Got him! I waited a while where I set up, then put the sneak across the property to where I have seen him feeding, and there he was coming ..... I ambushed him as he came by. He looked like an older bird, he was kinda scraggly and his beak was broken.

Classic two year old bird. Older birds start showing some amber in their beards and longer spur length.
