success finally

Post by Dereck »

Well season started off hot but could not get a Tom to commit.Tried four times with the same field heard him once saw him twice but nothing came of it.

Got in touch with a land owner after days of phone tag and he said sure no problem just to let him know when I would be there.

Set up on the edge of the field with no scouting this morning.
Heard gobble at 5:30 progressively got louder and behind me got turned 90 degrees to the left and gave another call. Now he is behind me again after turning and 40 yds from the decoy.( maybe two birds ?)
Slowly brought the gun around to my right as far as I could twist he is so focused on the decoy he keeps coming.Ten more steps and 2 oz of lead sent his way.

Tom Down 5:51 am

Spurs 1 3/8 and 1 1/4
Beard 10 1/2
weight 22 5 oz

My biggest bird yet
Turkey hunting is by far the most exciting for me.

Sweet success! :D

If you think it's exciting now, wait until you try it with a squirming 6-year-old sitting next to you.
