removing servings

Post by wapiti_wacker »

I will be reserving my Excalibur string soon and was curious as to what the best way to remove the old servings would be ? I don't want to make any mistakes and cut the string.

Thanks for all and any input.

You can find the tag end of the serving material that has been served over and shave a bit at a time until you cut through to the tag end or you can lay a razor on the string and cut the end of the serving.

I remove string, install large swivel - kind used for salt water fishing - by snap to one end loop, put swivel loop in shop vise, carefully cut serving along string with razor to create an end , and ZIP off serving. Swivel keeps string from knotting up, unwinding Flemish twist.

X2 on the toothpick.
Although sometimes I use the it in middle of the serving where the jaws have loosened and caused separation.

1) Get the serving very, very tight. I use leather gloves to protect my hands from serving jig. 2) Apply the serving on a stretched string under considerable force.
3) Unwind some of the twists in the string prior to stretching then apply the serving in the same direction what the string will bee twisted, that way it tightens as the string is twisted. 4) Use premium serving materiel: Angel Majesty or Halo.

Good luck
