My Tower Stand Solution To The Problem

Post by Raymond »

Hey Folks,
I am sitting here tonight and I am stewing over what to do. I made a Tower Stand a few years ago now. Maybe 3 or 4 years ago, my memory is not that great now. It was secured on all four corners with 1/2" nylon rope and tied tightly to 4 trees. Well apparently I have found out that someone untied the two front ropes and either pushed it over or let the wind push it over. I have an idea who the culprit is. The back wall is broke by landing on a stump and the door has the top corner rip open. The door was locked. I was only able to go hunting 4 or 5 times last year because of my health and I locked it up when I was done. Apparently this guy was going into it using a ladder that he had stashed not far from my stand. He made a three wheeler path almost within 25 feet through the woods to come to my stand from his property, cutting across another person's property to get to my land and stand. This past winter he happened to come up out of the woods through my wood road on my land to the back of my house. I surprised him and he admitted that he didn't think there no one home. He did that a couple of times. Not long after that we arrived home one day this past winter and a piece of lattice was removed from under the deck so someone could check and see if the basement window was unlocked. Nobody got in, all the other windows were locked. I know it was that guy. The next day I took a ride on my 4 wheeler just down the road where he is living in a camper trailer, and he told me he was going in my deer stand and then told me he had a path right to my tree stand location. I am a fairly nice guy, I was a little bit ticked when I heard and seen the path and that he was going in my hunting stand. I didn't say much. Even though I felt like taking a bat to him, . So me being nice I said to him if I don't hunt in it you can hunt in it. If I get a deer I will share with you and if he gets a deer he does the same with me. After all it was my land, my stand and my carrots and apples and cracked corn. I figured that was the easy and nicest way to settle that. He knew I was on narcotics for pain so he asks to buy a couple pills from me. I said I only had a couple left and I needed them for pain until I had my first epidural injection. I wouldn't sell them anyway. I never ever bother anybody else's stuff no matter what it was or where it was. If I found something that belonged to someone and I knew I would bring it to them. I will help anybody out whenever I can. No photos and no proof. But since I have that farm I think when I am feeling better I will get my son and a few friends to go in and help me unscrew the roof, walls, and the floor and then take and unscrew the lag bolts from the base, but number where each piece of the base goes and bring it out and when I am feeling better take it and reassemble it on another spot on my land totally in the bush where no one can see it. Walk all the pieces into the spot by hand without any road or cut path going into the area. We have to keep the shed's locked and everything put away. People is losing gas and other items lately. There was no trouble since he moved in the area. I have a trophy cam that is going to be put on the windowsill inside the house pointing towards the path that comes out of the woods behind the house tomorrow.

Hi Raymond,
Whether he is the guy who tried to get into your house or not, I don't like his character. Using someones stand, when he knows who's it is without asking says a lot about him. If the stand is on your land too, well ... he's way out of line.
Íf someone done the right thing and asked me, I may let them use it when I wasn't. But when they take the piss out of you like that, I'd tell him to stay off your land all together. No-one wants problems with neighbours, but I think being nice to this oxygen thief is just letting him think he can get away with more stuff like this. I think moveing the stand to the other side of your property is a good move. And a definate word to him to stay off your property that you'll be hunting on it.
A piece of flat wood with nails sticking out will fit nicely across the 3 wheeler track where it crosses onto your property, with a few twigs and leaves over the top of course  Then again this is the type of guy who will be over to borrow your air pump without asking

Oh I am thinking the same as you Dash. I am quite pissed off at this point. If I was in the shape that I was when I was healthy, that guy would be getting lesson taught to him. But I would make sure it was on my land and on my terms. But unfortunately I am not in that shape anymore. There is other ways of dealing with him and now I will do some dealing. I believe that he is the piece of garbage who stole my Bushnell Trophy Cam last year also. I had a box lag bolted to a tree and the camera locked inside the box. The tree was cut above the box and then cut below the box and the block with my trophy cam was carried away. I still have a special mark that nobody would think it was a mark but if I could ever see the box or the camera I could identify it right away.

Edit: I will lend him my air compressor instead instead, .
I think my 12 gauge Winchester pump load with a couple rounds of coarse salt would be a nice message sender. I bet I would find out who was running away from me,   .

Seriously mate he needs to be told politely but clearly at this point to stay off your land from now on. A well hidden game cam photo to prove he's on your land would be good too just incase he doesn't listen to you and the law have to get involved. Or you can lend him your pump.........action winchester

Any halfway decent neighbor would consider your health issues and offer to help with keeping up your stands and anything else around the house you needed help with. Its the neighborly thing to do. Not make even more stress and hassle for you. A neighbor of mine fell on very serious health issues a few years ago. He had been a good neighbor to me and I have offered numerous times to help with mowing the yard or what ever they need help with around the house. I mean it too. If this guy was worth a d--- he would do the same. Just my two cents.

Yeah, that is a tough position your in bud. It would suck to make an enemy out of a neighbor, but by the way your describing him, he brought it on himself. I would never go on someone else s property without permission, let alone sit in and ruin the tower stand. I think you are on the right track though, catch him in the act with your camera, then approach him and tell him he is not welcome anymore.

Or if its at all possible just go and confront him with everything. Get it all out in the open and see how he responds. If the guy lies and denies everything then kick him to the curb and make sure that's where he stays. Maybe though he will feel guilty and fess up and apologize, and then maybe you can avoid becoming enemies. Then again the guy may me a total bullsh**ter, and say whatever he has to to make you think he is sincere. But I'm sure if that is the case you will be able to see right thru him. Its a tough situation to deal with and I would do all I could to avoid trouble, but if the guy is just a total jerk then you may unfortunately, have to kick his ass!!

Raymond, sorry to hear you're in this situation. You are a far more patient man than I and this clown is lucky for that. I hope this situation works itself out in a good way for you. :)

You know I had some pity for him and a sad place in my heart for him. But what I think of him now is not something I will really say on this forum. I am going to make a visit in a day or two, I have a couple days off seeing doctors this week and by this weekend I will be making a visit to see him.

I will be myself and will have a friend along with me. I usually get things resolved in a pretty decent manor. I am a friendly and kind guy and level head. I will feel out things and I will sort this out like a gentle giant. If that doesn't work than there is all kinds of laws he has broken. Environmental laws, municipal laws just to mention a few. And the biggest one is being on probation, no firearms ,no alcohol, or narcotics, no breaking the law. So I can be a gentleman and if he doesn't agree to my terms than I will just leave friendly and let him think is so smart and I will make a few calls. Hopefully he sees it my way. Stay to heck clear of my property and belongings and don't screw around with me. I think that will be quite sufficient. Don't you think so folks?
