Deer Corn

Post by DaGriz »

Just returned from feed dealer Corn is up to $14.59 per 50lbs and still rising He figures it will be $16.00 or more by end of next week. Although there is still a chance the crop can rebound , the price will remain high as speculators and bidding up the futures based on crop failure prediction Going to try to find an alternative feed.

Last year I bought from a local farmer at $5.50 per 50lbs , Called him and he said he has one person who bought everything he will produce at $8.00 per 50lbs, so that option is out.

I always buy directly off the farmer and buy a 1 tonne supersack =2200lb. That way it is the equivalent of 88 lb bag for $3.64. If you have contact with farmers or hunt their land you could maybe make an arrangement such as this to save money. I then put it into smaller portions to fill the feeders.

Unfortunately I live in an area where corn is not grown to any extent. So trying to buy in bulk isn't possible here. There was one farmer where I could buy it and he sold his whole crop this year. The feed mill is as expensive as the rest.
I would have to drive about 250miles to find farmers who grow corn and then they all contract to wholesalers to buy everything.

Old crop corn is trading for 299.49 per metric tonne today or $ 7 .61 per bushel ( 56 pounds ) Running a feeder this year will be very expensive , they are talking $10 / bushel if the dry weather and heat continue . :(

Corn would grow better without these hail storms beating them up. This is from the storm that just past by, they were bigger but busted up some as they past through the trees.

Sounds like I better buy a few bags now before the prices get even worse.

Corn is about $10.00 for a 50 lb bag here. It might be a little cheaper if the news media wouldn't talk the damage to the corn out west that hasn't been harvested yet.

Going to the Co-op this morning to get 10 bags. If it's over the $9 I paid 2 weeks ago, I'll post the price.
