FLETCHING QUESTION

Post by UPSMAN »

Being a relative newbie to this sport I have noticed something while watching all the bowhunting shows on TV. Most of the TV bowhunters shoot arrows that have 2 inch blazers. I have read that many members of this forum also swear by them. I have looked at several different xbow bolts and have not seen any that come standard with blazers. I shoot gold-tips and firebolts and neither use blazer veins. So, what do you think, do blazers really make that much of a difference and why don't the manufactures use these fletchings if they are a superior product. My gold-tips shoot super tight groups but just curious about these blazers.

Regular vanes are cheaper and do a lesser job of steering. Blazers are far more tough. Pass throughs on targets will rumple regular vanes badly or tear them but Blazers are barely bothered if at all.
No need for Blazers if your broadhead gives you decent accuracy. If it does not then try Blazers.

Blazers are tuff & preppin yer arrow shafts properly they will stick tite like a tick buried in ya. I had trouble wid them stayin on few yrs back n was real sour about them. Not much gets by me but a an archery big name store sold me 100 vanes in a ziplock claimed they were Blazers. I got shucked out of my money cause they weren't & they were the one's they wouldn't hold. Since then i have gotten Blazers in a marked Blazer pkg. I use them n think they're very good vane. Most arrow makers buy the cheaper vanes its all about profit n gettin more of yer money & they spend less of theirs!

You aren't the only one. Seems like the Blazer knock-offs are a plenty on Ebay!

I have taken all my 4 inch vanes off my arrows and fletched Blazers on all of them. I shoot Blazers on all my vertical bow arrows as well. Another good fletching that is shorter in height is the Fusion vane and from what I understand it flies just as well as the Blazer.

I bought and tried some of the shrink wraps as well with Blazers and they worked better than I expected. In 20 seconds and hot boiling water you can have a finished arrow that shoots great. The shrink wraps are a little expensive at $15.00 for 6 but if you don't damage them they should last all year.

Have to give Blazers the nood as well . Have used them since they 1st came out . They just work . Had trouble getting as much Helical as I like , so I modded my Blitz Jig . Changed over to using the EZ Bolt and love it .

You do have to watch for nock offs of Blazers on Ebay . I ended up with some and was not 100 percent happy with the results . With proper shaft prep and good glue , I know I can repeatedly shoot the same arrow thru soft spots in 3d targets and NOT worry about them falling off or being damaged .

Was just given a few Fusion 2 and 3 inch vanes to try out .

Blazers do make a difference on my high FOC arrows, using Slick Tricks std and mags. Gold Tip Lazar II and III Pros come with Blazers now. Check out Keystone Country Store archery.

I had a problem one time with some Fusion vanes one time and I heard that some bad batches were sent out with the Zion Fusions. I was told my someone on Archery Talk to clean my arrows and the base of the vanes with Denatured Alcohol to get my glue to stick. The person that gave me that advice definitely knew what they were talking about because my vanes stuck very well after that and I didn't have anymore issues with them.

I also now clean my Blazers the exact same way just in case I have any issues with knockoff vanes not sticking.

I haven't shot them yet but I just switched all my arrows over to Blazers. I must say they were very easy to work with and glued up real nice using the new Bolt fletcher. Can't wait to shoot them. :)

fusion vanes are good also... re-fletched all mine with 3" fusions. still stayed witha straight clamp with 2* offset... the blazers (2") can be used with more helical, and still have good arrow flight... sounds good and all, but i think i will stay with the straight fletch in 3"...

Got a question about the Blazer vanes.
I have a bunch of the original Blazer vanes I used with my vertical bows. Will they work with an Excal or do you have to use the new ones that have less vane height than the originals?

Just got some for fletching replacement on all my arrows.
Bought them from my local dealer and they came in a Bohning packaging and installation guide. When I get time I'll scan and post up for the forum.

What I did notice is the vanes have a textured surface and the printed logo is not crisp due to this surface. This vane also has one serious glue surface for it's size.

*Just to add this; the vanes I bought are the original version. I don't think their height will be an issue.*

So much to learn. So I am using stock Firebolts, and will be hunting with 100grain X-Act's, now if I remember correctly, I was told at Boo Fest that I should be using a heavier broadhead to help with FOC ( which I still need to understand lol ) So if I strip off my stock vanes and use the 2in Blazers, is there enough difference in weight to help with the FOC ??
