S5 question

Post by Deerstalker »

I have a new Equinox with a factory string and would like to know if I should keep a certain gap between the string at rest and the rubber bumpers by twisting the Dacron string? I am also brand new to Bows & Cross Bows and have shot the Equinox a couple dozen times. I don’t think the S5s are adjustable but I could be wrong. Another question I have is does the serving wear on the side that touches the rails or does it roll slightly? Is it a good idea to occasionally reverse the string end to end so that the other side of the serving now rides on the rails?

I cannot believe the accuracy of this cross bow and am really excited about the upcoming hunting season. Thanks for all of the help and sorry if these are dumb questions.

Some ppl use a card width, some ppl use more

The rail will cause some ware but I think the claws
cause more, rotating the string is a good practise.

I too am a relative newbie to xbow hunting. I have the same bow that you have. I can tell you what Danny Miller told me on the phone when I called him with a million questions. Shoot the bow just as it came in the box. Shoot a hundred or so bolts through it and you can also leave it cocked for a day to allow the string to stretch or creep. He said the string will basically just settle in. Don't want to start any trouble here but he also told me that he was not a fan of waxing the string. I know a lot of knowledgeable folks on here have an opinion on this matter. As for me, I have about 150 shots through mine and have not waxed the string at all. My brace height is currently 1 5/16 inches. Good luck on your new equinox.

Keep a credit card or two in width between your string and the S5 bumpers. Do not let them touch and then shoot as it will split the rubber bumpers. I usually keep about a full string width between mine. Reversing the string every now and then will extend the life of the string and serving.

I have an Exocet with the factory string and I have 3/16 to 1/4 inch between the string and bumper. There is no twist in the string. I have only shot it about 40-50 times over a couple of years. Perhaps it is still stretching?

There should always be some twist to the string. Two or three twists does not look like much over the 36 inch length of the string.

A little more gap is better than none at all. The S5 will still do the job.

HAHAHA Don't take my recomendations! I an 1/2 inch from my bumpers. Don't want to wear them out but then again maybe I made my new string to short and waiting for it to stretch. LOL
