equinox breaks today

Post by derf »

Was out target shooting today, shot once at the target loaded the bow again and half way up the rail while pulling up the 2 bolts that hold on the dissipator bar broke and the bolt that holds limb on pulled out and the limb flew 10' in the air and landed in the bush. Packaged it up and shipping it off to excalibur tomorrow mourning. Im sure they will take care of it. Has this happened to anybodyelse. Thanks Derf

Sounds like someone had the recoil brackets off and didn't loctite them going back on. I guess that could happen if loctite wasn't used on the large limb bolt as well.

WITH THE SHIELDS THAT ARE AROUND THE BOLTS AND IT BROKE RIGHT AT THE SHIELDS WITH PART OF THE BOLTS BROKE OFF INTHE THREADS . AS FOR LOCKTIGHT I DO NOT NOW IF ANY WAS USED BUT IF THERE WAS I WOULD SAY IT WAS BECAUSE WHY WOULD THE BOLTS STILL BE IN THE THREADS WHERE THEY BROKE. DOSEN 'T LOCKTIGHT STOP THE BOLT FROM BACKING OUT AND HOLDS IT IN PLACE. AS I SAID THE BOLTS BROKE OFF IN THE SAME PLACE ON EACH BOLT AND THE REST OF THE BOLTS ARE BROKE OFF IN THE THREADS. THE OTHER BOLT PULLED OUT OF THE RISER. DERF

That main bolt was probably loose or someone used the riser to rail bolts on the limbs which is about 1/4" shorter than the main limb bolts.

IF THE MAIN BOLT WAS LOOSE WOULDN'T I HEAR A NOISE OR SOMETHING WHEN I SHOT. IM A AVID SHOOTER SHOOT AT LEAST 10 TO 15 TIMES A NIGHT DEPENDING ON WEATHER. AS FOR THE BOLT BEING LOOSE COULDN'T BE. THERE WHAT LOOKS LIKE PIECES OF MATERIAL ON THE THREADS OF THE BOLT. BUT IT DOES SCREW IN DID NOT TRY TO SEE HOW FAR BUT I DOES START IN THE THREADS. TO ME IT LOOKS LIKE PIECES OF ALLUMINUM COILED AROUND THE THREADS. DERF

Just replaced my limbs on Equinox and sent letter with old limbs asking for info on replacing threaded bolts.....whether or not to use a threadlocker....nothing in the form of any reassembly instructions came with the new limbs so I just put the fasteners back and tightened them......am I hearing from you, Boo, to use a threadlocker.....blue locktite OK? I thought I smelled a threadlocker on the limb bolts when I took them off....

Wow, I bet you had a scare. It would have gave me a rise. I probably would have had to change my underwear, :) . Glad to hear that you were not injured. Were you using a C2 Crank Cocking Aid or were you using a Rope Cocking Aid? Was your Equinox bought new or was it bought second hand? What is the year of Equinox?

HI BOO, NEVER EVEN THOUGHT ABOUT TAKING PICS. AS SOON AS IT BROKE GATHERED UP PARTS TAPED THE BOLTS THAT BROKE WITH THE SAME DISSIPATOR BAR THAT IT CAME OFF OF, AND DID THE SAME WITH THE OTHER ONE. TAPED THE BOLTS BACK IN THE HOLES ON THE RISER AND PAKAGED IT UP AND SENDING IT OFF THIS MOURNING. DERF
