Swhacked one!
Haven't been seeing as many deer as usual, so I decided to test drive one of the new Swhacker broadheads on the first good opportunity that presented itself. Not a selective harvest, more like "If it's brown its' down".
Got my chance this evening and took it!
Small, but it should be tender & tasty and I've been wanting to try the "stuffed smoked backstrap" recipe Big58 posted a while back.
Sorry for a poor picture, but I was in a rush to get it in the cooler.
Also managed to get some blood on the new truck!

Nice deer Wabi
Cant beat fresh deer meat.
One of my main goals after deer recovery is getting some backstrap on the stove.
I normally have it cooking while Im processing in the spam.

Re: Swhacked one!
Congrats on your deer...did the swhacker bend, dull up or look like it was before you shot it?...i mean they shoot them in a barrel and survive
Re: Swhacked one!
Swhacker did a good job. The deer went less than 40 yards and left a blood trail anyone could have followed. Blood at the spot where it was standing when the arrow hit, and a pretty steady stream of blood to where it fell. Shot was at about 15 yards from a 15' ladder stand, so the exit wound was low on a good double lung hit.
The blades were dulled a bit, but probably from the dry dirt it was buried in after the pass-through. I hit the blades with a few light passes with a fine diamond file after I cleaned it and it would be fine to use again.
Can't say the Swhacker put the deer down any faster than the Wac'Em Exits (4 fixed blades similar to a slick trick) I've been using for a few years now, but it did leave a better blood trail.
I called the landowner after I shot it (didn't need to wait as I knew the shot was good and heard it go down) and he brought the tractor with the carrier on the three point hitch. Backed up to the deer (I temporary tagged it and field dressed it while he was on the way) and loaded it on the carrier. He hauled it (and me ) back to my truck, raised the carrier over the tailgate and I slid it off into the truck bed.
That's the way to get them out of the woods!
Phoenix with Leupold 2-7X shotgun scope, Boo string, 2216 arrows with 2" Blazer vanes (Arizona E-Z Bolt fletching tool), and 100gr 2" cut Swhacker.

congrats nice deer
Re: Swhacked one!
That's the thing I love about them! If you get a good chest cavity hit, they'll lay a blood trail a blind man can follow. Even with a marginal hit (like the last one I got), she didn't lay that much blood, but she was down within 60-70 yds.wabi wrote:Swhacker did a good job. Congrats on the meat wabi!!! Ain't it funny how your hunger will make you do strange things? Be sure and take some pictures of your backstrap that you cook up.
