Sorry to hear of your friends mishap. I hope he recovers and is up and about quickly. :(

What an awful accident! Am glad to hear he will recover. Will say a prayer for Ben's recovery and for his family as he goes through this difficult time.

Never good to hear about this.
Lost a neighbor this way. Headed out to his tree stand and dropped rifle somehow getting up up there, unfortunate it was pointed the opposite way of your friends crossbow and there was no need for medical assistance.

All too familiar with the situation, and my main rule is to not get in front of ANY firearm no matter what the situation may be, fall or slip I learned the hard way to rather take the bruises and control the weapon. No offense at all implied of course, but everyone that owns one needs to be aware that these things aren't toys.

Hopefully everyone can learn from this and the cringe they got picturing the bolt in their foot as you described it will, as unfortunate as it may be to your friend, be a guide to better safety practices for many other hunters.

With the crossbow I don't chamber a round until I am in my "camping" position, some even go as far as extending an elastic band around their stock and safety pin to hold it down in the event of a fall or drop.

We all Pray for a speedy recovery, and are thankful for the medical service workers that were able to get out there to him on time. Money isn't everything, despite what some may say, and ultimately his safe return to his family is worth more than anything else.
