Hog Broadhead

Post by nchunterkw »

I hate to start another "which BH is best" thread, but.....I need some advice.

I am planning a hog hunt for late feb/early march, and am planning on using my Vortex. After viewing some youtube videos of guys shooting dead hogs with different setups, I am thinking of my "buffalo arrow", with a Magnus 150gr 2 blade Stinger BH. That should be about 575gr moving around 280 - 285 fps, and about 100 ft-lbs KE. I figure the 2 blade will give me a little better penetration should I hit the "shield" vs. a 3 blade (my other choice would be a Montec CS).

All you guys that have shot hogs with an Excal - please chime in with the good and bad, and thanks in advance for the help.

I have taken wild hogs wid the followin BH's & they all did a very good job. Magnus Snuffer 125- Nap Spitfire 100gr 1 1/2dia. & a RazorTrick 125. Keep yer shot low tucked into the leg hollow & aim fer heart. You will miss their sheid everytime.

There are some really good youtube videos showing just how tough a hog shield is posted by BreezyOaks Farm. That guy uses a 2 blade Magnus and a 700gr arrow going about 260fps. Here are links.

His setup has about 104 ft-lbs KE and momentum of 0.8. I can come close with the 575gr setup. 100 ft-lbs KE and momentum of 0.7

Vixenmaster....that makes me feel more at ease. Looks like you hit them up tight to the shoulder...more so than a deer right?

You see the front leg joint About 4/5" above brisket, shoot tite there! 3 of the 4 were heart shot the 1st pic i was high up & it were close. Shot took out top of left lung down into right lung & out the bottom of chest. All hogs were piled up in less than 50 yds from where they got hit

I used G5 Striker Magnums on 4 with great results. My total weight was just over 400 grains. The set up blew through 2 hogs and stuck into a log deep enough that I had to unscrew the arrow and leave the broadhead behind.
