Sandy Hook

Post by Gwen's Dilemma »

I want to express our deepest sympathy and condolences to our American brothers and sisters at this horrible time. Please know that our house is thinking of you and praying for the victims of this unspeakable horror. As parents and grandparents we can't imagine what the children's famillies are going through. Even the survivors will be scarred.

We definitely need to send our prayers out to all those families. One 20 year old anger stricken kid changed the lives of many families with his senseless actions. As a law enforcement it is hard enough seeing kids hurt in vehicle crashes much less having to go to a scene where someone intentionally hurt all those children and adults for no reason. As a parent and grandpa it is hard to imagine what all these victims families will go through for the rest of their lives.

My heart felt prayers will be praying for them for a long time.

I don't know anyone in Connecticut either, but still it gives you a very bad feeling. Can't even imagine the pain those people must be going through.

Yes it's hard for anyone to wrap one's head around. It put me and I'm sure many others in an unusual frame of mind for what is usually a cheerful Advent service today. There's no dispelling it and no neat policy remedy or words we can probably provide that can explain or fix it. The people walked in darkness in Isaiah's time and many clearly still do. I guess that's why Paul said the peace we are promised "passes all understanding." It has certainly been eluding me the past days. I know the Lord was at that school... but my -- our -- instinct is to protect what is precious and defenseless and I just wish He'd kept that sick man away from those poor people. And of course once the memorials end, the public discourse on causes and remedies will be anything but thoughtful, spiritual, or helpful. What can one do? I guess pray as honestly and fervently as one can, love one's neighbors, raise upright children, and if you are so inclined, keep the powder dry for when the wolf shows up.

Satin entered the school, just like He enters the hospital each day. Where is the outcry for the 3,700
dead each day. abortion kills the inocent, no smiling face, no personality and no resistence. A soft target.
So much easier to kill, no one will know and no one will care.
Our Lord said "before you were I knew you"
Ahh yes Man is so much like the grass of the field, Grows so quickly, is cut down in prime and withers.
Give thanks to the Lord for the time we have and be prepaired, for no one shall know when His soul will be required of him.
Where evil abounds [ The Lord says ] My Grace abounds more.
Lord, send all your grace to Sandy Hook, and remember the little ones with no face, name or personality.

I look at some posts and as a Canuck that hunts everything from squirrels to moose (I'm almost 63) wonder about a couple things. We are allowed a max of 5 rounds in our semi auto rifles, 3 in our pump and semi auto shotguns. In 22s there may not be a limit because of the tube type magazines. We didn't like all the changes when they came out, but what's with the threats that we're hearing about south of the border? I usually still get what I'm hunting for even without banana clips. To people like jh45gun go ahead and try to chew me a new a$$hole (ignore this post as I do yours). As an outdoorsman I really don't get it. I can defend my home and family with a couple shotguns. If I need the 300 mag they aren't on my property. Just the rants of an old man

I will also be 63 on 12-25 Dave. I shed tears when I read about this massacre at Sandy Hook. I am from the USA and am a lifetime NRA member. I am also a retired State of Georgia Revenue Agent with 34 years on the job.

I do not think that gun control or magazine limits have anything to do with crazy folks killing people.

I could kill as many with an autoloading or pump shotgun and a couple of boxes of shells as I could with an AR 15 and several clips of ammo if that was my intentions. I could also kill a lot of folks with a baseball bat or a knife before being taken down if that was the way I rolled.

I could drive a car or truck through a crowd during a parade and kill dozens and simply claim mechanical malfunction.

Simply stated, if you want to kill you can find a way and a weapon.

Now that we know this how do we stop crazy folks from killing our children? Ban cars and trucks? Ban baseball bats? Ban knives?

In the USA alone there are over 50 million households that have firearms. Do we really want to punish them all cause one crazy SOB killed some folks?

I usually carry 24/7. I have never killed anyone. But if I had been at Sandy Hook I would have tried my best.

Please pray for the dead and the families that survived at Sandy Hook.

robertyb, I didn't mean to start a gun control argument. It just seems to me that I keep hearing about 30 round clips in these mass shootings. I wouldn'd stand a chance against that. At least with a 5 round clip maybe we could die trying to overpower the nut bar. I'm concerned everytime I hear stories like Austalia where semi rifles and pump shotguns were outlawed. :( And yes our house is praying for the victims and their families.

Yea, I feel like I can pretty well defend my home with my 270 BAR, shotgun with 3" #1 buck, and other various firearms in the closet. I can only tell you that in Florida there has been a massive run on more assault type weapons and bulk ammo especially in the last 4 years. A lot of people I know have stocked up so to speak with the really good stuff - AKs, ARs, SKSs, Sig Sauers, pistols, guns I never heard of, and cases of ammo. Probably the same in much of US. So, on one had you have honest law abiding salt of the earth people that feel threatened by the current political climate and feel a need to prepare for the meltdown of Western Civilization, or stricter gun control, whichever comes first. On another hand you have the gun control folks that want to do away with it all. I think they feed off of each other and make it worse. On yet another hand are the criminals who buy guns illegally anyway. In a crack somewhere is some deranged psychopath that manages to get his hands on stuff he should never have. I 'm a firm believer in the right to bear arms. It does seem a little strange to me that you can run down to the nearest Walmart and pick up a knock off AK47 though. I don't know. Its a very sensitive subject and for good reason. I just feel so sorry for those poor people who must not be able to make any sence of it or find any solace at all.

Saw this on another forum and it makes sense!
I found this online and with the recent events in New Town and the upswing in anti gun rhetoric that follows thought I'd share it. Darrell Scott father of Columbine victim Rachel Scott was invited to speak before the House Judiciary Committee. They didn't get what they expected!!!!

“Since the dawn of creation there has been both good & evil in the hearts of men and women. We all contain the seeds of kindness or the seeds of violence. The death of my wonderful daughter, Rachel Joy Scott, and the deaths of that heroic teacher, and the other eleven children who died must not be in vain. Their blood cries out for answers.

“The first recorded act of violence was when Cain slew his brother Abel out in the field. The villain was not the club he used.. Neither was it the NCA, the National Club Association. The true killer was Cain, and the reason for the murder could only be found in Cain’s heart.

“In the days that followed the Columbine tragedy, I was amazed at how quickly fingers began to be pointed at groups such as the NRA. I am not a member of the NRA. I am not a hunter. I do not even own a gun. I am not here to represent or defend the NRA - because I don’t believe that they are responsible for my daughter’s death. Therefore I do not believe that they need to be defended. If I believed they had anything to do with Rachel’s murder I would be their strongest opponent

I am here today to declare that Columbine was not just a tragedy — it was a spiritual event that should be forcing us to look at where the real blame lies! Much of the blame lies here in this room. Much of the blame lies behind the pointing fingers of the accusers themselves. I wrote a poem just four nights ago that expresses my feelings best.

Your laws ignore our deepest needs, Your words are empty air. You’ve stripped away our heritage, You’ve outlawed simple prayer. Now gunshots fill our classrooms, And precious children die. You seek for answers everywhere, And ask the question “Why?” You regulate restrictive laws, Through legislative creed. And yet you fail to understand, That God is what we need!

“Men and women are three-part beings. We all consist of body, mind, and spirit. When we refuse to acknowledge a third part of our make-up, we create a void that allows evil, prejudice, and hatred to rush in and wreak havoc. Spiritual presences were present within our educational systems for most of our nation’s history. Many of our major colleges began as theological seminaries. This is a historical fact. What has happened to us as a nation? We have refused to honor God, and in so doing, we open the doors to hatred and violence. And when something as terrible as Columbine’s tragedy occurs —politicians immediately look for a scapegoat such as the NRA. They immediately seek to pass more restrictive laws that contribute to erode away our personal and private liberties. We do not need more restrictive laws. Eric and Dylan would not have been stopped by metal detectors. No amount of gun laws can stop someone who spends months planning this type of massacre. The real villain lies within our own hearts.

“As my son Craig lay under that table in the school library and saw his two friends murdered before his very eyes, he did not hesitate to pray in school. I defy any law or politician to deny him that right! I challenge every young person in America , and around the world, to realize that on April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School prayer was brought back to our schools. Do not let the many prayers offered by those students be in vain. Dare to move into the new millennium with a sacred disregard for legislation that violates your God-given right to communicate with Him. To those of you who would point your finger at the NRA — I give to you a sincere challenge.. Dare to examine your own heart before casting the first stone! My daughter’s death will not be in vain! The young people of this country will not allow that to happen!” - Darrell Scott

Do what the media did not - - let the nation hear this man’s speech.
