Newbie

Post by dfrauenkron »

Hello to all. Been here a couple times looking around and now I have a question so figured might as well ask you guys. First off from south eastern Minnesota. Shattered my elbow 2 years ago, 4 surgeries and countless PT later, I gave up archery hunting. Last fall decided to join the crossbow club and picked up a Equinox. Boy am I glad I did. This thing is a tack driver. Shot 4 times at deer killing all 4. Including my personal best a 167" 10 point. So MN season ended and I am wondering to unstring or not. Seams what I've read it's a individuals decison. Mine will prolly sit till September now. Maybe a spring turkey hunt. What's best for the limbs? I want this thing to last as I have alot invested. What other off season maintenance tips do you guys have? Thanks in advance.

If'en yer gonna put it up til next season then you could remove rubber pads from DBars & string. I shoot them almost every week. So i don't unstring my Excals.

First off, welcome! Glad to see another Minnesotan on here.

As far as unstringing... It wouldn't be a bad idea to pull it off if the bow is going to be sitting for nine months..
Would also recommend checking and oiling all your nuts and bolts to prevent surface rust.

EDIT: Others may need to correct me on this, but be sure to remove the D-Bars (Pads only?) before unstringing.

My thoughts exactly. Welcome to the forum. :)
Gun control is like trying to reduce drunk driving by making it tougher for sober people to own cars.

Thanks guys, I'm going to go ahead and pull the pads and string. Lubricate all metal parts. I found my instructional DVD and all this is covered and looks easy enough. Thanks again, can't wait till fall all ready.

Welcome to the forum! I unstrung mine but I also take the riser from the rail as it fits nicely in a drawer if I am going to shelve it for a bit, I'm waiting on a scope exchange so it's put down for a nap.
