I've got a custom 2wt rod and a new dt2f line here. 8)
Everything is frozen solid today, though. :(

Have you had a chance to try it yet?

I use a vintage Hardy reel. That is one sweet looking reel you've built there! Love it!

Do you know what blank was used with your rod? Someone you know build it? I've built 4 rods so far. Very addicting!!! I've fished where my eylets keep freezing up but never where the water was frozen over.
No, still haven't fished it yet. Been looking into anodizing it. Still not sure if I'm going to or not. I hate putting money into it when so far I have none invested. Getting some quotes though. I've also been striper fishing here lately more than trout. I'll be sure to post a first fish with it picture hopefully in the next couple of weeks.

It's built with a Lamiglas FL 783 (6'6" 2pc 3wt) fiberglass blank. It does best with a 2wt line, but I have even cast a 1wt on it. Very much a full flex "noodle". I bought it on eBay.
I've been tempted to get into rod building. I'm waiting to see how my retirement goes. I'm drawing my first social security check this month - not going to quit working completely, but definitely going to be more selective in the jobs I take on. I like to call myself semi-retarded now.

I'm planning on hitting the Ohio river as soon as it drops to fishable levels (hopefully by the first of next week). The warmwater discharge at the powerplant offers some good winter fishing, and there's some nice stripers there at times. Hit it once before the recent rains, but all that was hitting were white bass. I was a bit over-gunned with the 8wt switch rod.

How do you do that!!???

Many years ago I had to mill a nut and bolt in grade 9 shop class. I barely passed. Did OK on the dust pan though.

VERY nice reel.

Thanks all for the comments! Creating things has always been fun for me. Maple enjoying what you do makes it alot easier! I have learned some great skills from jobs past that helps alot too.
Wabi I first saw your picture before reading your post. I was thinking that sure is a big handle for a 2 weight  . I've been trying for stripers on the fly rod off and on for a while now. Still haven't hooked up yet. I can catch them trolling jigs and bait but on the fly is what I am really hoping for.
