Getting Ready For First Spring Turkey Hunt

Post by maple leaf »

I was hoping everyone could help me out. I have an Excalibur Wolverine and am getting excited for the upcoming spring turkey hunt. My question is, what broadhead is everyone using for turkey? I have heard good things about the excal boltcutters, but I have also heard guillotine broadheads are amazing. Can anyone help clarify what I should be buying?

I appreciate the help,
Jason

In 3 more weeks, I will be putting a Swhacker into a Florida Osceola Turkey. After that, I hope to try a Muzzy MX3 on a big Georgia Eastern.

I use boltcutters for deer, with good results so far. Shot two turkeys with them and they both got away. :(

I use aftershock archery hypershock or gobbler heads. It's dropped every turkey I've shot in it's tracks. I shot a turkey this fall with a spitfire and worked great too.

Get some grapplers and use them with your existing broadhead. Cheap, easy and very effective.

They work for everything Raymond. Concept is that the grappler slides up the shaft creating friction, slowing the arrow on impact.
For smaller game you will still get a pass through, but the "fingers" will prevent the arrow from burying it's self. It tends to stand up the arrow in brush. So yes, excellent for any small game.

Does it affect arrow flight very much? Looks interesting. I have been wondering how I would ever find an arrow after shooting a turkey with a crossbow.

I use a Wasp SST Hammer with a Muzzy Grasshopper behind the broadhead. Killed all my Turkeys with this combo.

No noticable change in arrow flight, none worth compensating for.
