weekend coyote hunting

Post by one shot scott »

I have been out a few times this year with limited success but I finally connected on this male. I had the caller start with a female invitation howl and the proceeded with wounded rabbit. I think the howl attracted him, perhaps the wounded rabbit spooked him since i think they are now call shy towards it at this location. I saw him come out 100yards to my right and he made a wide sweep behind and downwind of me and i was sure the jig was up!. he cleared the tree-line behind me and paused at 100y. at this point i was standing in my treestand looking behind me. I didnt have a steady rest, but I took a shot. Clean miss! There were high winds too which did me no favors im sure..He trotted to another bush 500yards away. I thought I blew it and shut off the caller. I figured I may as well sit a while longer and see if anything else shows up. 15 mins later he comes back from the way he came and I stopped him with a "woof". He dropped on the spot. Im color blind and im told the pics are very bloody, my apologies.

No, i can see it in the snow Norm! I pulled him away from where he fell. There was a lot of blood on the snow of course, but everyone i have shown a pic to has said to me "whoa, theres alot of blood"
I cant see it in the hide as well. the colors just blend in for me.
