Some R & D TEST RESULTS ADDED

Post by taz3 »

I'm not sure if it's recked & destroyed or research and development!

I have the S5 for my Phoenix and when I installed them, I needed to readjust my brace height of my string, but in doing so, it changed my FPS (reduced it). I thought if I could move them a bit, I could put my string where it can achieve maximum FPS. I like to get the most performance possible!

Being aware my Xbow is probably safe with out them, I like the added security they offere and the dampening so, I made them tunable. :D

I drilled a hole down the center of the S5.....

tapped the hole with a 1/4" 20

Cut the ball off and about 3/8" from the middle, then inserted a 1" set screw to the base and a 1/4" set screw in the ball section to lock against the stem. This will allow me to adjust the stops around my optimum brace height and lock them in place.

As you can see they are at different heights to show the adjustability.

I wont be able to test until the end of the week, because of my work schedule though. Oh one is silver because I lost the original in the snow and my buddy fabbed one up until I get the replacement one, this is why I'm behind with the project. Field testing should have started this weekend. :(

Thats really nice Taz. After i bought my S5's & installed them i noticed there was about 1/16 of an inch difference in the length of the bumpers. Not that much but i thought it would be nice if there were some adjustment there. I just figured when i replace them this "problem" would go away.
Good job, Hoagy

More then likely, it would just be a matter of seeing a set to know what is required to integrate the adjustability. I'll research them and let you know what ideas I come up with.

Thanks guys, and hopefully others can benefit from this too. If any one need any more details let me know, I'll be glad to offer what I can.

Norm, the shoulder that butts up to the riser could be machined so that the REDS is lower and then shims used to go up or down.

GREAT! Innovative thinking... be sure to post at what stand-off you are getting the best performance from. Would keep us (me, especially) from having to trod the same trail

you could also just use a locknut on the base of the thread instead of the hex head. that way you could adjust it without having to take the rubber off.
i suspect maximum fps will be gained by allowing the brace height to be further down the rail toward the limbs as possible.stick to the brace markings.

nice innovation there.

I thought about using a jamb nut, but it was a pain trying to locate a thinner then standard nut to allow for maximum adjustment. Most places I checked want to sell me 100 or more because it would be a special order. They're probably available somewhere individually, but this was easiest, so I did it.
