Rage 125 grain crossbow head?

Post by Chefrific »

Has anybody on here tried the Rage 125 grain crossbow head? Was considering using them with my vortex on some turkeys this spring. Positives/negatives would be appreciated. Thanks.

Used one on a doe in Dec. Through two ribs hit a hard maple behind her bounced off no damge to ferrel but blades done. Shoot like fieldbpoints. Just make sure blades seated properly before loading on deck as the have a tendency to come out in quiver. Only time I have used them on game. I will be trying something else this year. Maybe Ulmers Edge or the new Slick trick mech if I can find them.

One thing to keep in mind with any mechanical is that you shoot a recurve crossbow - meaning the arrow sees maximum acceleration the moment the trigger is pulled - unlike a compund where max acceleration occurs a little later. That can sometimes result in blades opening prematurely. Lots of guys on here use little rubber bands or dental floss or something to make sure the Rage blades stay closed until impact.

Rage crossbow come with rubber o-rings for this purpose but as stated dental elastics are good replacements. New this year they have a shock collar.

Rage has increased the Crossbow X two blade cut for 2013 in 100 and 125 grain. Last year cut was 1.75". This year for 2013 the cut is 2" wide. I suggest using the 2" Crossbow X if you can find them on the store shelf.

I've taken a bear and a deer with the Crossbow Rage and it was very effective. And my wife likes orange so that makes them the best!! No...really!! :D
