Experimental String Suppression System

Post by Rudolph »

Hi guys,
Here comes again one more crazy idea from me. For some reason I want to shoot an ultra light arrow from my phoenix, maybe 250- 300 grain (probably 16-18 inch cut down carbon arrow for a vertical bow) to get some really good trajectory. Because the arrow is so light, not enough of the bow energy will be transfered to the projectile. But if in the last 1/2 inch something receives the needless energy, everything should be fine, right? So the idea is some really bad ass string suppression system, which is designed to be hit directly by the string and which should withstand multiple dry fires. If it does it, there should be no problems with the arrows under 350 gr. Has someone tried this?

JUs make sure yer total arrow weight is 350gr or more. If'en its less voids warranty on Excal :(

Most of the stoppers out there will probably split quickly with that must force

Also I would make sure the arrows are not to small of a diameter an the serving hits the nock in the center  old Murphy likes this kind of stuff  good luck

I'm no expect by any means, but I have been reading some research from Easton about them matching the spine, length and weight to bow poundage. The better balanced these are the more a u accurate the arrow. Just some food for thought.

i would not shoot an arrow that light. i have mine at 363 grains and they fly enough at that speed. i would not go below 350g. its not worth the limb split you WILL get.
as for custom string stoppers, go for it.

Rudolph...man I like the way you think....... I am working on this at this time, I have been talking to Danny about this and we have a friend here in fla that has been with me seven hours today we have found the answer it is so simple it is stuiped ,but things seem to hide in plain sight. I want to finnish testing before I post them as I dont want to eat crow.I say at 1000 shots+ with no bad wear that should be fine you wont need to alter the S5 globes in any way replacement rubber is easy to buy at any bow shop.....ocyrus

No need to wait! Some of us are laughing already.. :D

In all seriousness, each shot will be the equivelent of a dryfire, so be careful. You are going a bit light it seems, make sure you protect yourself as you experiment, it gets a lot less funny when someone gets hurt.
If you have run this past Danny, and he approves then you are likely good to go. But again, keep yourself safe.
Looking forward to the results, if you succeed, you have learned, if you fail, you have still learned.
If you are not willing to learn, nobody can help you, if you are willing, nobody can stop you.

I want to do this but I am using a 360-grn shaft and just playing with vectors, our main task is to design bumpers that last over the supplyed set......ocyrus
