Weight reduction on the front end

Post by Carnivorous »

Called dawn @ Excal to get the necessary parts to take the D-pads off the front end of the Ibex. I figure if the Eclipse & new Matrix don't have them then they had to go off my Ibex.

What a huge weight saver. Bow has better balance now!

You know me I never like to mess with a good thing but in the end why carry that extra weight around if it's not needed!!

Ya I should have taken your advise long ago.. :)

Looks nice and clean up front now too.
Been thinking of removing them from my Vortex.
Perhaps it's time I give Dawn a call myself. :)

What do you need to get to remove them? I might do the same for my Vortex.

Part# 99870 4 10-32x1" screws
Part# 99873 2 Aluminum tapered washers

Easy mod & best of all it won't need a bow press to do this!!

My Ibex SMX didn't even come with any. With the bumpers and my ADF I didn't need it any. Thanks for posting

Did you have any problems taking the limb bolt off? What steps did you take to remove the D-pads? Thanks...

Take the pads off, then remove the string to relax the limbs. 4 machine bolts (2 each side) for the DP bars come out, then the 2 for the limbs.
Replace with new screws (shorter) and washers, then put the string back on.

Has anyone weighed the pads and bars to see what the reduction actually is? Curious..

Tighten the zhit out of the limb blots first preferably with loctite or wifes pank nail polish then evenly tighten recoil brackets down until rubber is squishing out under bracket. Same treatment with loctite. Im using blue incase I realize after limbs are on backwards.
My limb bolts were tight but came out no problem.

Surprisingly they're light, I didn't weigh the ones I put on my Dad's Xbow,( I would guess 1 ounce/30 grams each) but the weight is also exaggerated because they sit so far forward. Now they are gaining from the leverage they have, being is far forward and it seems to be more noticeable with the S5 system.
I am also contemplating removing my D-pads for this reason, my S5 is now tunable, so it will have more benefits. Plus with the S5 being closer to trigger the leverage advantage is reduced for a better distributed weight balance.
