Need Some Ideas

Post by UPSMAN »

As most of my friends on this forum know, I bought a couple of really nice decoys before the season started. Today was there first test. Just so all of you know, these decoys blow up and get firm. They are almost like a basketball. The first thing I told my sweet wife, don't shoot my new decoys. Bird comes out, runs straight to breeder hen and tries to mount decoy. Wife gets excited.(not sure if it was the long beard or the breeding that excited her.   Needless to say,she shot the $hit out of my new hen. Here is where the ideas come in to play. Decoy won't hold air anymore due to 4 or 5 #6 size holes in the rubber decoy. How would you try to seal these holes. I was thinking if I could get some "tire slime" inside, That might seal leaks. My neighbor says to trim down some "tire plugs" and try to plug the bird like a car tire. Any other ideas out there guys?

Stick your robe in from the rear end. If your not comfortable doing it, ask your doctor to do it.

Wonder if tire sealer would work. That emergency tire repair you pump in a tire on the highway and it blows it up and seals it. But may not be able to take it down

Bicycle tire patch kit? the one I got now is green but have had black in the past. They are thin and seem to work well..Peel backing and stick on.

Did you ever talk to a tire repairman?
The slime melts the rubber and leaves a mess.
I think it would melt the whole project, probably
never deflate.

i know this isnt what are asking for ..but my thoughts are ...trash it and go with a decoy that you dont have to air up...

How about making a bladder for it with a beach ball of a similar size, they're pretty cheap too. You can put a slit large enough to fit the ball, then blow it up once it's in side. The decoys only need enough air to maintain their shape.

Try "Goop", the shoe sole repair stuff. I use it on waders all the time. Sticks well and seals...it is tough and waterproof.

I used to hunt with a friend who couldn't resist shooting the Flambeau type duck decoys. (He claims they were accidents). After draining them overnight we would use clear silicone caulk. (like bath and tub sealer) That worked reasonably well, but the plastic in those decoys is more rigid.
