Hi from Nebraska
Thought I should register and say "hi" after lurking on here since last fall. My name is Mike. I grew up on a farm eastern Nebraska. I'm 63 and have hunted deer with about everything except a crossbow. Now that I find myself a member of the F.O.G.'s (Fat Old Guy) club, I thought it would be nice to try crossbow.
After some research and finding this forum, I decided I would try to pick up a Excalibur. As luck would have it, I looked around here at several sporting goods stores, and could only find new Excaliburs. One day while at work I was talking to a guy about finding a crossbow, he told me that he thought his FIL had a crossbow that he might sell. He gave me his FIL phone number. Long story short, his FIL purchased a ExoMag crossbow in 03 or 04 in hopes to use it hunting because of a disability he had. Shortly after purchase, he had more medical problems and the bow has been setting disassembled in a box in his gun room. So one man's misfortune is another man's gain.
I now have a really nice ExoMag that looks like new. It came with Varizone scope, Excalibur quiver, 4 Gold Tip Lazer II arrows that look new, sling, extra string, cocking aid. He told me he had it roughly zeroed in. None of the arrows had any broad heads on them, and only one had a field tip. So last fall I shot it twice at 20 yards into my bow target and realized he was right. Both shots were bullseye at 20 yards. Did I tell you, those arrows were hard to pull out by hand? LOL
I'm excited about turkey season starting, so I am ordering some 100 grain slick tricks and another half a dozen of the same arrows. After reading all the info on here, I feel I'm on my way to a new hunting opportunity. Nebraska has also just finished it's second year of crossbow season for deer, so this fall I will be giving that a try also.
Thanks for all the info to get a guy started!
