Easter Coyote

Post by Adrian J Hare »

And what a nice colour for the special day it is.

A buddy and I headed out at first light and did a set at one of my hunting areas and it no good as the South south/ west wind was wild and alot of the places I have to hunt is not good on a south wind so he headed back towards the house and over to one of his properties that was perfect for the south wind. As we pulled up at 8:35 we looked over the field and I said to Wayne that the rock pile in the center of the feild would be a great place to setup and being only 100 yards from the woods. Wayne has a bad knee and after the first set he didnt want to walk so said " Way you go" and i'll watch so out I went and across the feild to the rock pile. The wind is a cross wind right out of the south so I set the caller and Mojo out just up wind of me and out about 40 yards and started on the Distressed Cottontail. I let it run for 2 .5 minutes taking the volume from 28 up to 36 as the wind with the thick woods would knock the volume level down. I put the call on mute after the 2 and half minutes and as I scanned the wood line with my gun pointed down wind of the caller I noticed the yote come over the rock fence and out to the field looking right at the caller. As he came from the 100 yds to the 75 mark working his way down wind of the caller I gave him a bark and he stopped and looked back in the woods giving me a perfect broad side shot.

There was hardly a bit of snow on the ground in this area and the rock pile only had a little bit of snow here and there but this yote did not see nor look at me once while he came out.

The hornady made its mark with a WACK and the yote gave another 40 yard run in the field and tumbling in a pile.

Happy Easter everyone !

Great job.
Some of my brothers have friends and they are hunting them with Dogs. They have killed 50 here in Ohio so far this year. They have inspected some of the females and have found as many as 10 pups in a female.
Have you inspected any of your females for pups? If so what kind of numbers are you finding ?
