Help me decide

Post by Bunt »

This fall there is a good chance I will be Moose hunting with my crossbow, I'm contemplating purchasing a new crossbow so my 15 year old son can hunt with me. I have a Phoenix that I would pass on to him which leaves me with a decision on which model to replace it with. There seems to be a lot of Exomax and Equinox shooters out there, the Phoenix is a 175 draw weight and a 305 fps advertised speed. Crossbows are noisy and I will be using this for deer also, would a faster crossbow make sense. Phoenix vs Exomax/Vortex????

Pick the one that fits you best and balances well in your hands with the weight you want to carry.. Every model Excalibur except Pixel/Apex will kill a moose.

With the recent release of the Matrix bows, there seems to be a glut of Exomax and Equinox on the used market for quite a bargain. Some of these are MUCH less expensive than they were a year ago, and while the Matrix is narrower and shorter, these are both a lot of bow for the money. Just something else to ponder.

Yep, lots of good deals out there since the Matrix hit the store shelves. Good luck finding the bow you're looking for. :)

Like everyone else I am excited by the new Matrix models. I have decided to wait and read a lot more from members on here who have them. I have a Vortex with FFF string, shooting < > 470 gr. Firebolts fletched with 2" blazers and tipped with 175 gr, SlickTrick magnums. It is accurate and goes through about anything. I think you will be happy with any Excalibur you choose.

I have a Phoenix and I think the next one will be a Matrix, it seems the Matrix is easier on servings then the heavier Xbows it has replaced, plus it smaller and lighter to carry. The only downside to the matrix is they tough to cock without a cocking rope. Otherwise I think these 2 models would compliment each other well.

I was looking at the Matrix recently Myself, a little on the pricey side but probably well worth it. Not sure if I should look for a deal on a 200 pounder or hold off and save for a Matrix.
