Noisy arrow holder?

Post by timbikeride »

I've been looking for a way to quiet down the arrow holder and get rid of the metallic clink when it slaps the rail. I'd think shrink tubing would wear out fairly quickly. Any better ideas than shrink tubing or mole skin?

Heat shrink does not wear out quickly.

Dual wall heat shrink tubing is very effective.
As well, I 've never seen any wear out. Help's hold arrow in place better, quiet it down after arrow release. Had some on for years now and not even a wear spot on the tubing yet.
Good stuff. 8)

Evidently there's less friction there than I thought then. I've used shrink tubing on various cables and it usually wears through fairly quickly.

The point of contact with an arrow is very small and down pressure is not severe.
Now that I shoot carbon arrows, they are very slick and it's a moot point whether there is much friction to worry about at all!!

I was really proud of the mole skin that I put on mine. One piece, all cut to fit where it wrapped around an seamed nicely on top. I thought it looked really good.Boo took one look at it and gave me a piece of heat shrink tube.lol

The shrink tubing really is the best way to go.
I had looked at a plastic dipping product I use for coating toll handles.
In the end I went with the shrink tubing for ease of removal in case I need to reapply at some point.

Shrink tubing never lasted too long on the prong on TM Hunter type rests on vertical bows for me either. I found the Teflon slip on ends lasted much better. But again maybe the horizontal bow rest created more friction. I'll grab some tubing at Lowes today and give it a shot.

How high off of the mainframe should the tip of the arrow retainer sit? If it needs to be adjusted, which position do you do the adjusting from, do you bend the arrow retainer at the tip where it touches the arrow or do you bend it gently at the edge where it attaches to the scope mount?
Thank you,
Raymond
