Bought a new Block for broadheads.

Post by Riflemanz »

I bought a new block for BH testing and i shot an executioner with a 100gr 2 blade rage completely
thru the block. It was a perfect shot @20yds with my 355! All other shots were buried up to the fletching with diablo arrows.I shot a old bear 2 blade at 20yds and it shot fine, but at 30yds it planed on me.
I had good groups with a Rocky Mt 3 blade 100gr head @ 20,30.
I also shot a buckblaster BH and it opened after clearing the stirup.Forget those.
Next time out i'll test the Executioner with Shwackers and spitfires from my 355.

I think you have a defective target. I have three of them and sometimes shoot them up close and personal with no issues other than removing the arras. I'm talking field tips and broadheads. They are 4X4 Blocks.

I agree with Don, I would be going to get my money back. I had the block for 8yrs and nothing passed thru unless I hit a worn thru part, had to shoot at 4'' or 5'' squares at the end. got a block fusion a few yrs back nothing goes thru it yet, go get your $$$

I thought is was my new 355 putting out too much energy for the block to handle.

Ten feet away with a 380 Matrix and a field point.

Ten feet using a 100 gr G5 Striker same 380. You might get more penetration with a brass insert. I was using a 20" (390 gr) Carbon Express Maxima Hunter which will be a bit lighter. But a 380 from 10 feet away I think should penetrate futher than a 355 from 20 yards.

I am very interested to read how the spitfires perform

The arrow will be more stable at 20yds than 10. That can affect penetration.

Keith, I understand the reason for your concern. After all my daughter is in her second year of her PHD in Engineering

Very true. With any arrow or bolt you'll reach a point where as you get closer you'll get less penetration.
