Setting Up Matrix 380

Post by LowPro »

Disclaimer ~ This is my first time owning a recurve crossbow. Heck...this is also my first time owning a new crossbow, period...which also makes this my first time setting one up, straight out of the box. So, please...be kind & gentle. 8)

I watched the DVD/video that was included with the Lite Package, and followed it to the "T"...assembly went very smooth.

I was reading up on the Matrix 380 on the forum yesterday, after my crossbow was delivered. I seem to remember a thread where it was mentioned that the string shouldn't contact the rail?

OR...the serving would last longer if it wasn't, anyways?

Comments in the thread suggested twisting the string, to make it tighter..resulting in the string being just above the rail. Supposedly this would also make the crossbow more accurate...I'm pretty sure that's what it said, anyways?!

Well...mine's contacting the rail...and the string dampers, too.

Any input for a newby?!

The string will always contact the rail, but you should twist the string so it moves away from the bumpers 2 string widths to prevent the bumpers from wearing out extremely fast.

Twist the string counter clockwise so the string is about a 1/8" or 1 string thickness a way from the bumpers, it took me around 5-10 twists to get the string were I wanted it.

Thanks for the tips, y'all.

I had an account here years ago, even though I didn't own an Excalibur, and y'all were just as helpful then. I appreciate it. Just goes to show that this forum has top-notch members...a real class act!

Now I'll just have to wait until my stringer tool is delivered, before I can get down to business.

I also bought the crank-cocking aid...I had to. I've been disabled for about 35 years (paraplegic). I pushed a manual chair for 24 years...then my shoulders gave out. I've been using a powerchair ever since. Now I'm having neck & shoulder issue's (pinched nerves).

My old crossbow was a compound Buckmaster Maxpoint...exact same as Excalibur Paradox, but USA model. I had to cock it manually one time, while out in the field (forgot to bring my cocking aid along). I positioned the buttstock against my chest. Got it done...but never again. I now have a vague idea of what it feels like to have your chest cracked open, for heart surgery...OMG.
