Binoculars
Myself I don't use them to often but was thinking of upgrading what I have, a low end product. With that said. What power do most prefer? Also any good references? Thanks.

Re: Binoculars
I recently purchased the Vortex Viper 6x32 for 50% off since Vortex recently intoduced the Vortex Viper HD line. Giving a wide field of view @19 oz the 6x32 Vortex is clear to the edges and offers a very clear view with easy focusing. I'm giving these a 10/10 in my book.

You may want to check out the Nikon 10x42 Camo in the waterproof model. I believe that these are great hunting binoculars.

Re: Binoculars
They were expensive (though I did buy used) but the 8.5X42 Swarovski ELs (not HDs ) I bought taught me a lesson that in optics you really get what you are paying for. It was the best money I have ever spent on hunting related gear. I would do it again in a heartbeat if necessary.
If you are hunting fairly thick stuff 8X42 should do fine. If hunting open land where you can see a long ways then 10X42 or up. The higher the power the harder they are to hold steady for a clear view.

My girlfriend bought me a pair of Swavorski 10x30 CL for Christmas. Great woman and binoculars. Mostly used in the AZ.desert for long range glassing.

Re: Binoculars
Bought my wife a pair of Leupopld 10*42 Acadias that were on sale for her birthday. Kind of hard to fit to your eyes and kind of jiggly, but very good optics.

Re: Binoculars
Hey Folks,
Is there any binoculars in the price range of $100.00 that is worth buying for that amount of money? I realize that $100.00 is not a lot of money for a set of binoculars or anything along the lines of optics, but some of us are fairly strapped for cash and cannot afford high priced items. Any and all advice is welcome, I appreciate all your opinions.
Thanks,
Raymond

Re: Binoculars
100 bucks...it all depends on how much u use them ...cheaper wont be as crisp and probably fail quicker...or not great in low light mayby you are out of the bush before low light ...so depends on a few things a hundred dollar pair might be ok....my buddy spent 200 buck on a pair and they are massive so he is reluctant to bring them anywhere so he paid too much,...i paid around the same but got a nice compact pair and use them tons ...you should go try a few pair a heavy pair around you neck and you will be leaving them at home or in the truck though....as above mentioned find out if greybuffs girlfriend has a single sister
Re: Binoculars
For $100 your best bet is to look at a pair of porro-prism binoculars. They might weigh a few ozs. more but the quality of the glass is usually as good as roof prisim binoculars that cost 3-4 times more. Also porro-prisms do need phase coating. I like a 8x40 or 8x42 myself. Look at the porro prism that bushnell offers and make sure they are water/fog proof. I have a pair of Bushnell Legend 8x42 porro-prism and love them. These sell for about $100 new. For the $$ you can't beat it.

Re: Binoculars
I can tell tell you that the Swarovski 10x42 ELs that I am fortunate to have are spectacular. They are not HD, and we lucked into them at about 40% of retail in perfect condition…and they are great.
I do believe that you get what you pay for in optics. About 10 years ago we were on a tour in a National Park and while viewing wildlife, we easily had 15 - 20 after anyone that had "good" glass could see.
I could never afford them new, but I can tell you for the past ten years I keep looking for the deal we got on the originals…they are just a dream to look through.
