I didn't take up archery hunting until I was in my mid-20s. I took a doe with a cheap $99 K-Mart Bear Kodiak bow on my third hunt. I went on to take four deer that season with the bow. Let's just say it was a target rich environment.

Me too. I've had my Excal for about seven years but I could count on one hand the number of times I get out with it each season. I'm still first and foremost a gun hunter and I've taken all my deer with either a rifle or shotgun.

I'm a bowhunter first and don't much care for gun hunting.
Bowhunting has made me a better hunter with the muzzleloader.
First time I got serious with the bow was in 83.
Bought my first compound in June of that year and shot a doe the first week in December of the same year.
When I can get out enough I generally get one every year.
The bow is preferred weapon of choice.

My first bow and arrow deer was in 1961. My first year bow hunting, got a doe on a Sunday morning. Season started mid September and I scored in December that year, 3 1/2 months. :D

Wasn't until my second season of hunting with my Exocet that I was able to put a doe down. My first season I wounded a nice buck by taking a stupid shot, also passed on a black bear earlier that fall. Lessons learned!

Year two. First year I made a couple mistakes and got busted - never took a shot. Year two i missed on a buck at 20 yards quartering away unaware - buck fever. The next week i got my first doe.

I started hunting in the fall of 2008. I was unemployed at the time so was out bow hunting a lot from the begining of October. I finally got my first deer at the end of November. It was a big doe and I still can't believe that I actually called her out. She was at the edge of the bush and I couldn't get a shot because she was somewhat behind my tree stand and with two other biggger and smarter does. But I got on the call and she was curious enough to come out and give me a shot. She was only twenty yards away and I got her good. Since then, I've had good years and not so good. Hopefully this one will be the best yet (I lost my job so will have lots of time this fall). It's true, every cloud has a silver lining!

I've gotten two hogs and two turkey with mine but no deer. I'm sure going to try to help Colton get one this year tho.

Took a couple years when I first started hunting with a compound bow. I was lucky enough to get one my first year hunting with my Excal Exocet. :)

My buddy bought a Ten point xbow and had't used it. He kept telling me to use it, even leaving it with me for the season. I didn't use it the first year but the 2nd year I gave it a try. I don't remember how many hunts, couldn't have been over 5 or 6 I got a nice little 8 point. I was hooked. I killed 2 more that year. The next year I bought me an Ibex and killed 3. Last year I killed 3 with my xbow and 1 with rifle and 1 with muzzle loader. 1 hunt each with guns. The rest of the time I used my xbow. I live next to a National wildlife refuge with a very limited gun season and 3 month bow season with xbows being legal. I even hunted on privite land during gun season with my bow. I luv it. This year I have a new Matrix 380. I'm pumped to kill one with it.

Took a few years an lots of trial an error an finally scored on a big doe back in early 70 s . started out bowfishing after watching my dad but he never hunted deer with a bow just a 270 an did not like me bowhunting saying I would just wound deer. then many over 40 years of bowhunting an 2 of my sons killed there first archery deer the first time in there stand with me sitting in the stand with the one an sitting on a limb in a nearby tree watching the other.
