using easton xx75- 2117's

Post by DaveShooter »

I have some old 2117's from recurve days. So I cut 'em down and made some 20" bolts out of'em. I thot I read in past subject matters here on the forum guys had used them and shot them in their Excal-x-bows. I normally use 2219 shafts but did this just for giggles. I know the min arrow weight is 350 min grain weight. Don't have a grain scale anymore so is it okay or not to use this size shafts without harming the bow limbs. I did try one for the heck of it. Just didn't want to shoot anymore til I heard yea or nay-Thanks :D

That used to be the main arrow size from Excal. Very good to use

Easton used the 2117 arrows as the main supply sizes. Excalibur and others used these as the main arrows they sold. For some unknown reason, Easton changed the 2117 to 2216. The 2216 (22/64" dia) was 1/64th larger in diameter, but only 16 one thousands wall thickness which was one thousands thinner then the 2117 arrow. But all in all, the arrow weights between the two were equal.

I still shoot both arrows.

It may be that arrow size has took more game than all the rest combined, just a guess

If I recall my engineering classes correctly you will gain more stiffness (spine) from a diameter increase than a wall stock increase. So a 2216 will be stiffer than a 2117.

Folks, I have some Easton XX75's and XX78's , 2213's are they strong enough to be shot with an Equinox? Or would they be best shot with a lower poundage crossbows such as the Vixen II and the Phoenix?
Thank you,
Raymond

Thanks for the info Wes. I will cut down some inserts to make nocks and chamfer them and weigh and get them the same weight and I will be all set then.
Thanks,

I have XX75 at 20 inches and they weigh 330.2 grains with 5 inch vanes and no arrowhead.

I also have some 2216 at 20 inches and they weigh 336.4 grains with 5 inch vanes and no arrowhead.

I also have some of BIG JOHN'S 2216 at 20 inches with 2 inch blazers and wraps with brass inserts and they weigh 393.5 grains with no arrowhead.
I usually shoot 125 to 160 grain broadheads.

2117 has been my main arrow of choice for many years.

Do you guys just put another insert in for the nock? Is there a plastic nock that will fit? I got allot of 2117 and like the idea of cutting them down.
