Ladder Stand Question.

Post by ParkerSxS »

Question for the ladder stand users.
About how long before the season opener (deer) do you put
your stands out/setup and shooting lane's opened up?

We have them up before the season but have put them up during and even cut branches. One time i cut some branches during the season a doe walked up to the cut branch and started to lick it where there must of been sap coming out of it.I let her walk by at 15yds and stopped her with a bleat and then shot her thru both lungs.

Put mine up last year a few weeks before the start of season but I'm about to move it again a few weeks before season. I also hunt with a climber and I move that pretty frequently during season. Since its private land I let it sit over night in a spot if I''m hunting it a few days in a row.
I don't know how much of a difference it makes if you are moving it and not leaving any scent behind. I think the deer will see it, be scared the first time, and then realize it's part of their world and not a threat.

I usually have mine up a month to 2 months before season opener but I have put one up one evening and hunted it the next morn and saw several deer and killed a very nice buck.

I leave most of mine up all yr just more several to take advantage of seasonal food sources. The 'looker' can be a problem, even with enclosed stands. Heard re someone who leaves a dummy silhouette in the window, deer eventually get used to it.
