New limbs-string question

Post by racking up points »

I returned my equinox's limbs, the tiller was way off. Excalibur replaced one faulty limb.

Today, I put both good limbs on and strung the bow. The brace height was way too high, not even in the hash marks on the rail. So I gradually took twists out of the stock excalibur Dacron string. Each time, brace height wasn't in the right range. Now, it has virtually no twist and still the brace height barely gets the string touching the top hash mark. The string is about a half inch off the S5's and i like it closer to a 1/4", but I can't get the correct brace height by taking out twists. The string has almost no twist now as it is!

I am using the exact same string that used to work with the old limbs. I measured from limb tip to limb tip, nothing's changed. The limbs are properly installed and all bolts have been torqued properly.

Do limbs need time to settle? Do you need to fire the bow a little to get them to "lighten up"? I have never seen this problem.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Excalibur replaced one faulty limb.
Historically, they replace both limbs, are you sure it was only one limb?

Put some twists in and leave it cocked overnight a time or two....No biggie

Definitely got only one new limb back...I marked the limbs with a sharpie before I sent them off to see if they'd replace both. One limb is definitely new the other original. I left it cocked, fired about 20 arrows with 3 twists as advised and still, BH isn't close. Deer season is fast approaching and I'm stumped here.

High brace ht will not hurt yer Matrix. You will only lose 4-5 fps at most. Sight it in & hunt wid it!

Thanks for all the tips guys. Xcalibur, I really appreciate the offer. The string sits a good 1/2" off the S5's, not sure I even need them anymore. I have noticed a bit more TWANG with the upper brace height. I really though I'd lose more FPS than what Vixenmaster said, so as long as the bow shoots accurately, it'll do what I need it to do in the field.

I am baffled by this though. Strange how changing one limb and correcting tiller would cause such a dramatic shift in BH and not allow me to minimize BH to the lower hash mark. With three twists I'm sitting right on top of the upper hash mark.

Thanks guys

Those new ENL's take awhile to creep. The more you shoot it the faster it will set in. Some jus cock their's & let them sit like that fer a day or two. I like to shoot mine in. The more i shoot the more i like it, i have some of my Excals i have shot 6 or 7 thousand times each
