Got my matrix 355... not top quality

Post by digiwind »

I got my Matrix 355 last night. Can't say that I am totally impressed. Haven't got a chance to shoot it but noticed minor things. Although they probably won't really affect the operation of the bow, it does give you an uneasy feeling. After all, it's a $800 bow.

One issue I've noticed, is an extra "knot" on the serving of the string. Fortunately, it's unlikely it'll rub against the rail during operation, and I assume it has nothing to do with the string beneath. Should I be extra careful not to even load the string and try to fire? I'll be leaving on Wednesday for a business trip and by the time I get back, the season will start in two days so I don't want to send this in unless I have to. Picture attached (sorry not sure how to do this proper)

Another issue has to do with installation of the quiver. One of the two screw hole on the stock base is not done properly. It'll go in two or three threads and tighten up. I didn't want to force it in. The other hole works perfect with ease to put the screw in. Tried to swap the screws and still same thing.

The frame and limb seems connect solidly. I put alot of things together myself and have to admit that I am disappointed about the quality of the bow thus far. Maybe I am nit picking but even the $200 warmart stuff I put together don't even have screw issues. I'll try to take a closer look with a high beam light today to see if there's anything I can do.

Worst case, I can use one screw to hold the quiver or don't use it at all.

Thank you for all your feedback and help!

Will

I can't speak to the quiver mount issues, but that "knot" is the bump from what I believe is called backserving - it's the end of the string tucked very tightly back under itself to hold it in place - then the end is cut off. Perfectly normal and proper - you'll find that an every string.

I can't explain it properly in serving terms - it's still too early on a Saturday morning for me!

Great! That makes me feel much better... maybe other strings I've seen hid this better (I have a play around SA fever crossbow and it doesn't have this ... and I did go to see an Axiom and it didn't have that either).

Now about the screw hole: I just used a high beam to examine further. It appears that the threads not done proper or something (can't see very well). But the screw will start to tilt after 2 threads in, without the quiver base plate this is obvious (just put the screw on by hand). The other hole, no issue at all, I can screw it in by hand. Tried to switch screws.. so it's not the screw.

Or you can take this one for the price I paid :D

I bought the bow because of two things (based on the feedback I've got): quality and warranty. Accuracy is part of the quality but not all of it. How would you feel that the new bow you got is in limbo from day one and you'd have to come up with ways to attach the quiver? You must be more forgiving than me or ...

I had an issue with mounting the bracket. With one screw near tight I couldn't get the second screw more than a few turns in. I tried both screws without the bracket and they fit fine but not with the bracket in place. With one screw tight it pulled the bracket over enough that the head of the screw made contact with the side of the bracket. I got it mounted by just starting the first, then the second and tightening them up alternately a little at a time.

Thanks for the suggestion. I guess my only choice would be dealing with Excal or Danny Miller at this point, as I bought it from Wyvern (some recommended highly and they are an authorized dealer). I'll shoot an email to them but like I said, unless I can have a quick turnaround, I'm kind of stuck with it.
Maybe I made too harsh a statement here but I stand behind it. Just my view, not meant to hurt other's feelings or anything. :D I'll try to shoot it later this afternoon. Hopefully no more issues and accuracy is as good as they say.

Thanks. Do you happen to know his email? I talked to him a few days ago and he said he's got a 2 week waiting period on Matrix 355. Hopefully he's got some parts.

sorry about your quiver mount screw man. but I have to say its not a big deal and you shouldn't be so down about it...crap happens sometimes. may be just a little powder coating in the hole. run a tap in it and move on :D
youll find this is a great bow.

I bought my 355 from wyvern and i'd call him first and tell them the problem.See what he'll do for you. Then if it isn't resolved call Danny Miller and tell him what's wrong and he'll fix you up!

The proper protocol is to first contact the dealer that sold the bow. If you don't get to where you want then contact Exvalibur. If at the point you do not get satisfaction then go public.
All this over one stinking screw hole?
