OT: Whackin' & Stackin' in Northern Virginia

Post by DuckHunt »

Our early doe season was changed from an archery to a gun season this year. Along with an increased earn a buck ratio, the goal is to thin the herd. My son took a doe last week. Then he took another yesterday while I tagged two. I snapped a picture as he broke a sweat dragging all three of them. The things kids do to prove their manhood.

I'm hanging up the rifle for the rest of this season. From now until archery season I'll be toting my Excalibur. Even though its gun season, I have a few stands that I can only see about 40 yards in anyway with all the leaves on. Maybe I can get one with my ExoMax before I have to hand it over to my daughter. Both of my kids have had a nice 9 point in bow range. He's a dead deer walking.

But did he field dress them?

Congratulations to you and him on all the deer so far!

No, but he did help me skin and quarter them. I'll have to put both of my kids behind the blade before the season is over. They've both seen it done a dozen times. It's time to turn them loose behind the blade and let them deflate a few stomachs of their own.

Very nice! Looks like the season is off to a great start! :)
