First Time Crossbow Hunting 2003 Exocet

Post by bobbythehunter »

This report is overdue. Made my first evening sit with my new/used (2003) Exocet. Around 20 minutes before closing time had a 5 pointer (135 pounds) show up. Took the first good shot at 25 yards. Broadside slightly quartering towards. Hit a little bit back because the deer was walking. Liver hit and he went about 200 yards and was done. Awesome shooting crossbow I'm hooked. I was using a carbon arrow with 100 grain wasp jakhammer. Been out one additional time with no luck. I'm going to use a 100 grain Swhacker expandable for the next one if there is a next one. Congrats on a fine deer! One tip you can try is when your ready for the shot is to make a bleat sound and the deer will stop for you.I do this all the time.

Congratulations on your first Xbow Deer!! Don't be afraid to put the arrow in front of the shoulder/leg on quartering to shots. That will get you a double lung hit and a short blood trail

They will stop, and turn at look at you...which often presents a nice target....as long as you are aimed and set when you do it, they will not get spooked and run away (well, never have for me, with six deer down recently (some with a firearm)).

Congratulations on your crossbow kill. This is my third season with the Exocet and it is an excellent crossbow. I have had the best luck with quick kills by using the Rocket Aerohead Hammerhead 100's. They are an expandable and open up to a 2" cutting circle. I shot a doe on Sunday morning and watched it run 40 yards and fall. I use two rubber bands on the expandables. I used these broad heads for over a decade on my compound bow and never failed to recover a deer.
